Job description

Summary: The Mill Helper is responsible for assisting the machine operator in operating equipment to prepare for machine operation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Includes the following:
  1. Assist operator to load coil on pay-off reel.
  2. Assist operator to set-up machine. (Includes cutting material with heavy hand shears, wiping rolls, cutting boards, holding coils together, cranking reducing rolls.
  3. Prepare to receive finished material.
  4. Adjust and position metal racks and conveyors to receive finished material.
  5. Assist the operator in catching pieces and stacking them.
  6. Remove the finished bundle, coils, or finished parts to the proper equipment
  7. Apply proper strapping to the finished product as required by the Manufacturing Order.
  8. Keep work area clean.
  9. Perform quality checks as required by Hynes Policy and as stated on the Manufacturing Order.
  10. Other duties as assigned by Supervision.

Education and/or Experience: High school education or equivalent.
Skills: Basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide), read measurement tools (tape measure, caliper, micrometer), follow basic instructions both written and verbal, read and comprehend Manufacturing Orders, quality check sheets, and part drawings.
Physical Requirements: Light to moderate effort needed to push coils onto reel. Light to moderate effort required to remove bundle down the conveyor and to operate the shears. Wooden racks weigh up to 100lbs and metals racks weigh between 50 and 100lbs.
Work Environment: Manufacturing and Mill environment.
