With centuries of experience, we are a powerful supplier of both domestic and imported, exotic hardwood lumber such as Teak, Sapele, Genuine Mahogany, Black Walnut, and Ipe. J. Gibson McIlvain is more than just materials and with our comprehensive architectural millwork facility, we offer custom millwork services from interior trim and cabinetry to exterior siding, pergolas, and furniture.
Job Description:
TheAssistant Mill Manager will oversee the Millwork operations. The Assistant Mill Manager role willinclude the development of Millwork capabilities, employees, and efforts for continuous improvement. The performance of the Mill will be measured with various metrics on production, efficiency, labor usage, lead times, quality control, profitability, and organization. The Assistant Mill Manager will have direct reports and will develop, train, and mentor such employees as needed to perform necessary duties at superior levels of safety, quality, equipment utilization and maintenance, and efficiency.
Responsibilities:

  • Direct Reports will include Molder Machine Operators and Trainees; Saw, Grinder, Planer, and Sander Operators; other equipment Operators and Helpers; Tool Room Crews; Material Handlers (Wrappers, Packers); Inventory and Scheduler Coordinators.
  • Lead and demonstrate safe practices and abide by all equipment and company safety protocols and assist with all necessary training on all equipment.
  • Schedule, coordinate, and perform required maintenance on all equipment.
  • Provide guidance, training, supervision, and discipline over all Millwork employees as well as cross train employees to perform in different roles.
  • Perform / oversee necessary milling and modifications to lumber to customer specifications.
  • Maintain high levels of quality control and frequent inspections, focusing on Material counts.
  • Manage / oversee the raw material flow with a focus on waste management / reduction.
  • Manage shop materials and inventory; procure shop supplies and tools within set budget.
  • Support Sales Department with product and production flow details and recommendations.
  • Set and communicate lead times for products and ensure strict adherence.
  • Attend and hold regular production meetings, maintain production data.
  • Coordinate waste management.
  • Provide guidance on material handling and packaging requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Position Requirements:
  • Prior training or certifications in one or more of the following preferred: NHLA, OSHA, LEAN, Kaizen, SIX SIGMA, AAMA, Engineering, Machining, Manufacturing.
  • Experience - Minimum 8 years in production field required including but not limited to; minimum 5 years in management of production operation; or a minimum 5 years of combination of training, use, and maintenance of multiple types of industrial processing / manufacturing equipment, wood working equipment, and other relevant equipment.
  • Knowledge of Lumber Species and Grading is strongly preferred.
Salary:
  • Annual base salary, range from $65,000 to $85,000
  • Bonus potential based on annual company profitability
  • Relocation assistance up to $5,000 if necessary

  • Eligibility effective on the first day of the month following 60 days of continuous employment.
