About MI Health

Milken Institute, Health (MI Health) bridges innovation gaps across the healthcare continuum to advance whole person health throughout the life span by aligning on healthy aging, public health, medical research, and food systems. Collectively, the work of MI Health acknowledges the vital relationship among the intersection of health fields and addresses common and cross-cutting challenges to achieve exponential impact and transform health for all.

About the Position

The Senior Director of MI Health International is a key leadership position within MI Health. The Director will work closely with the Executive Vice President of MI Health to advance MI Health’s mission on a global scale. This position will be responsible for executing an international strategy for MI Health, identifying strategic opportunities, building and executing programs, writing and thought leadership, fundraising, and building partnerships with international stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Implement an international strategy to advance MI Health’s mission and objectives.
  • Identify, scope, and execute new international research programs and projects, including standing up new efforts and managing implementation across diverse country contexts.
  • Cultivate and expand strategic partnerships with international organizations, governments, industry, and stakeholders to advance shared health priorities and surface actionable solutions.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance MI Health’s global presence and impact.
  • Collaborate with MI Health program teams to create and adapt programs and projects to local contexts.
  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to support international research programs and projects.
  • Create content in collaboration with MI Health program teams to elevate thought leadership globally.
  • Write articles, blogs, issues briefs and white papers as needed to elevate thought leadership.
  • Work closely with the Business and Program Development team to identify and engage potential donors, sponsors, and funding partners.
  • Represent MI Health at the Milken Institute’s regional meetings and summits and other international conferences and forum as needed.
  • Provide subject matter and technical expertise to projects and teams.
  • Contribute to overall MI Health activities, including developing programming ideas for Milken Institute events.
  • Partner and coordinate with the Milken Institute International team to align MI Health’s global activities with broader Institute initiatives across regions.
  • Duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Advanced degree (e.g., PhD, MD, or equivalent; MPH with relevant experience) in related health fields.
  • 15-20 years’ experience (including internationally) in leading the buildout and execution of strategic plans and conducting business development activities, engaging with international stakeholders.
  • Depth of experience and an established network of senior-level relationships across the regions where the Milken Institute works, including Asia, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
  • Track record of conceptualizing, developing, and delivering programs (e.g., investing in or building businesses, scaling clinical trials) on the ground in international markets with the operational judgment to adapt to local contexts.
  • Strong understanding of global political, economic, and social dynamics.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Excels at facilitating and coordinating diverse individuals to advance consensus based recommendations or solutions.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible and resourceful, and to adapt to external environment.
  • Comfortable with public speaking in small meeting setting and for large audiences.
  • Availability for overnight international travel.
Working Conditions & Travel Requirements

This position will work in a professional office environment on a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in-person to the Washington, DC office location (Tuesday - Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remotely. Please understand, this schedule is subject to change at the Institute’s sole discretion.

This person will also be required to travel occasionally to other offices and/or venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. International along with domestic travel is possible. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.
