Advanced degrees, specialized skills in GIS software, and experience in environmental impact assessments can lead to higher-paying positions.

What jobs pay $500,000 a year in the US?

In the field of biogeography, high-paying roles reaching $500,000 annually are rare and typically involve executive positions, consulting for large organizations, or academic leadership with additional income sources. Most biogeographers earn between $60,000 and $120,000, with top-tier salaries possible for senior researchers, university administrators, or industry consultants with extensive experience and specialized skills. Achieving such high compensation generally requires advanced degrees, significant expertise, and leadership responsibilities.

What is a Biogeography job?

A biogeography job involves studying the distribution of species, ecosystems, and biodiversity across geographic space and time. Professionals in this field analyze environmental factors, climate change, and human impact on ecosystems. They may work in research, conservation, environmental management, or policy-making to support biodiversity and sustainability efforts.

What does a typical workday look like for someone working in biogeography?

A typical workday for a biogeographer often involves a mix of fieldwork, data analysis, and report writing. You may spend time collecting ecological or geographic data in outdoor environments, followed by laboratory or office tasks such as mapping species distributions or modeling environmental changes using GIS tools. Collaboration with researchers, conservationists, and government agencies is common, as many projects are interdisciplinary. Depending on the employer, days can also include presenting findings at meetings or conferences and contributing to scientific publications. This diverse workflow keeps the role engaging and allows for both independent and team-based work.

What biology jobs pay over $100k?

Biogeographers and environmental scientists with advanced degrees and specialized skills can earn over $100,000 annually, especially in senior roles, consulting, or management positions. Jobs in ecological consulting, environmental policy, and research at government agencies or private firms often offer salaries above this threshold.

This aspect of the project involves surveying mesophotic and deep benthic reef communities (50 - 1800 m in depth). The survey utilizes a variety of survey platforms (e.g. ROV, AUV) to detect, classify and enumerate assemblages of corals, sponges, octocorals, crustaceans, mollusks, fishes and other fauna. Tasks should include: Survey Coordinator, Field Party Chief, Survey Watch Stander for Mesophotic Deep Benthic Communities (MDBC) surveys conducted on NOAA Ships and Small Research Vessels and participate on other PEMD resource surveys, as requested.

  • Ensures cruise instructions and cruise reports are assigned and completed on time and all participant clearance forms are completed and submitted.
  • Ensures adherence to data collection MDBC SOPs, and execution of at-sea mapping and ground truthing missions as Field Party Chief or Watch Leader.
  • Pre- and post-survey inventory and maintenance of equipment and gear.
  • Coordinating daily vessel activities, personnel, vessel position and movements, ports of call and weather and sea conditions.
  • Conducting data collection, biological and/or environmental sampling and logging and processing data and/or samples under field conditions, as required and according to prescribed MDBC SOP.
  • Report to the MDBC Project Leads with weekly progress updates or any time there are issues that require alteration to the survey plan.
  • Complete incident reporting procedures as necessary in accordance with applicable NOAA Small Boat Program requirements (small boat operations only)

b) Laboratory Duties
