To thrive as a Mid Level Web Developer, you need a solid grasp of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and at least one modern web framework, as well as a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, experience with APIs, and understanding of build tools or cloud platforms are typically required. Strong problem-solving, teamwork, and effective communication skills help you deliver robust solutions and collaborate with stakeholders. These competencies are crucial for building scalable, maintainable applications and contributing effectively to dynamic development teams.

What are some common challenges faced by mid-level web developers, and how can they effectively overcome them?

Mid-level web developers often encounter challenges such as balancing multiple projects, adapting to rapidly evolving technologies, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams. Job description

Web Developer
The Company
CareVet is a network of veterinary hospitals that focuses on acquiring and managing best-in-class hospitals throughout the United States. We look for veterinary practices that are staples of their community. Whether it's one hospital or a dozen, we focus on the standard of care delivered, the level of engagement from the team and the record of stability. We are building a network of the top hospitals, doctors and staff. CareVet's mission is to provide the very best care for pets. Our holistic approach to veterinary medicine focuses on practice legacy, team, veterinarians, patients and community.
We are seeking a Web Developer (HTML/CSS & WordPress) with strong front-end development capabilities and a sharp design eye. This role is fundamentally a hands-on web production role-the ability to build, edit, and troubleshoot web pages using HTML, CSS, and WordPress is essential.
While design is an important component, this position is best suited for someone who is equally comfortable writing code and executing within a CMS as they are creating visual assets. You will be responsible for bringing designs to life in a functional, responsive, and performance-optimized web environment across CareVet's growing network of hospital websites.
This role operates in a fast-paced, high-volume environment and requires someone who can move quickly from concept to execution while maintaining precision and consistency.
Key Responsibilities
  • Build, update, and maintain website pages using WordPress, HTML, and CSS
  • Translate design mockups, content, or requirements into fully functional, responsive web pages
  • Troubleshoot layout, styling, and rendering issues directly within code and CMS environments
  • Execute high-volume website updates with speed, accuracy, and consistency
  • Design and produce visual assets for web and marketing campaigns
  • Create and edit graphics using Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Optimize images and assets for web performance (compression, sizing, format selection)
  • Maintain consistent brand presentation across all digital properties
  • Collaborate with marketing and creative teams to deploy campaigns online
  • Continuously improve usability, page structure, and overall digital experience

Required Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in graphic design or a related field like fine arts or visual communication
  • Must reside in the Greater St. Louis, MO area
  • Proficiency in HTML and CSS is required - this role involves daily hands-on coding
  • Strong experience building and maintaining websites in WordPress environments
  • Experience working with modern page builders (Elementor, WPBakery, Divi, or similar)
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot and adjust layouts, styling, and responsiveness
  • Strong graphic and digital design skills using Adobe Creative Suite
  • Understanding of how front-end code impacts performance, UX, and SEO
  • Experience optimizing web assets (JPG, PNG, SVG, WebP) for performance
  • Solid web literacy across CMS platforms, plugins, and tools
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting multi-site or multi-location website environments
  • Understanding of UX/UI best practices
  • Familiarity with Google Analytics, Search Console, or similar tools
  • Experience with website performance optimization tools

Benefits:
  • Competitive base salary and annual bonus
  • Best-in-class health, vision, and dental insurance
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • 401k with match
  • Free continuing education through our own learning institute
  • Mental health support with a licensed social worker on staff
  • Paid time off
  • Much more!
