A Mid Level Supervising Physician is a licensed medical doctor who oversees and supervises mid-level healthcare providers, such as physician assistants (PAs) and nurse practitioners (NPs). Their role involves providing clinical guidance, reviewing patient care, and ensuring that mid-level providers adhere to established medical protocols and legal requirements. Job description

About VitalCare

VitalCare is a growing telehealth organization focused on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care across multiple states for long-term care facilities. Our care model utilizes experienced lead providers who conduct day-to-day telehealth consultations, with supervising physicians serving as clinical oversight and escalation support for complex cases.

We are currently seeking Supervising Physicians licensed in:

  • Missouri (must physically reside in Missouri)
  • Kentucky
  • Minnesota
  • Washington

Preference will be given to physicians who:

  • Physically reside in the state where they supervise
  • Maintain an active DEA registration in that state

Position Overview

The Supervising Physician will provide clinical oversight and collaboration support for our telehealth provider team, including nurse practitioners and physician assistants. Lead providers perform daily consultation reviews and manage routine escalations, while higher-level clinical reviews and certain prescribing requirements will be escalated to the Supervising Physician when appropriate. The workload is minimal but we are seeking a supervising provider who can be flexible with time.

This is an ideal opportunity for physicians seeking flexible, remote clinical collaboration work with minimal administrative burden.

Responsibilities

  • Provide physician supervision and collaboration for telehealth mid-level providers in accordance with state regulations
  • Review and address escalated clinical cases from lead providers
  • Assist with prescribing and oversight involving Schedule II medications in states where mid-level providers have prescribing limitations
  • Maintain timely availability for escalated consultations and physician review requests
  • Support quality assurance, patient safety, and clinical best practices
  • Participate in occasional provider meetings or compliance discussions as needed
  • Maintain accurate and compliant documentation standards

Qualifications

  • Active MD or DO license in applicable state(s)
  • Active, unrestricted DEA registration preferred
  • Additional DEA registrations in supervised states strongly preferred
  • Board certification preferred
  • Experience supervising NPs and/or PAs preferred
  • Telehealth experience preferred
  • Strong communication and collaborative decision-making skills

Compensation

  • Competitive monthly supervisory stipend
  • Additional compensation opportunities for Schedule II prescribing support and expanded state coverage
  • Flexible remote schedule

Preferred Candidates

We especially encourage applications from physicians who:

  • Reside in Missouri, Kentucky, Minnesota, or Washington
  • Hold active DEA registrations in those states
  • Have prior telemedicine leadership or supervision experience
  • Are comfortable supporting collaborative care environments
