The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Mid-Level Giving Associate Director reports to the Vice President of Individual Giving and provides strategic leadership and operational oversight of WWP's mid-level giving program. This role manages a portfolio of donors contributing $5,000 to $24,999 annually and drives philanthropic revenue, donor engagement, and retention. The position oversees the mid-level donor pipeline, including qualification, segmentation, moves management, and engagement strategies, and collaborates with vendors, frontline fundraisers, Marketing & Communications, and senior leadership to deliver a coordinated, donor-centered fundraising experience.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establish donor qualification criteria and lead moves-management strategies for individual donors within the mid-level giving portfolio ($5,000-$24,999 annually).

  • Oversee donor segmentation, engagement tracking, and progression strategies that move donors through the giving pipeline.

  • Develop and implement strategies to expand the mid-level giving program, including the integration of frontline fundraising opportunities.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, professional development, and support to ensure the mid-level giving team is highly effective and impactful.

  • Manage third-party vendor relationships, monitor outcomes, and evaluate return on investment to ensure program effectiveness.

  • Manage a portfolio of mid-level donors through personalized outreach, stewardship, and engagement strategies that strengthen relationships, increase retention and philanthropic support, encourage upgrades, and build long-term donor loyalty.

  • Utilize Salesforce to track donor interactions, manage moves, and analyze giving trends.

  • Partner closely with Major Gifts, Direct Response, and Donor Stewardship teams to ensure a seamless donor experience.

  • Identify donors ready for cultivation toward Major Giving and facilitate thoughtful portfolio transitions.

  • Ensure compliance with organizational policies and procedures, pledge and gift agreements, and donor intent standards.

  • Communicate program performance, donor insights, key findings, and trends to leadership and relevant stakeholders.

  • Facilitate donor visits and support special events that strengthen mid-level donor engagement.

  • Effectively articulate WWP's history, mission, vision, and programs to donors, prospects, and potential funding sources, both verbally and in writing.

  • Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.

  • Other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to analyze donor, fundraising, and program performance data to support strategic decision-making.

  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with donors, teammates, vendors, and stakeholders.

  • Knowledge of donor lifecycle management, moves management, donor segmentation, retention strategies, and mid-level fundraising best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and lead high-performing teams through coaching, accountability, talent development, and performance management.

  • Ability to build strategic donor relationships and effectively leverage senior leadership participation in cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities.

  • Demonstrated vendor management skills, including the ability to manage deliverables, monitor performance, and ensure accountability to objectives and timelines.

  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with a demonstrated ability to remain flexible, adapt to changing priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • High attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize, delegate, and ensure high-quality outcomes.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with sensitive donor and organizational information.

  • Demonstrated understanding of Wounded Warrior Project's mission, values, programs, and services and the impact they have on wounded warriors and their families.

  • Demonstrated understanding of military service organizations (MSOs), veteran service organizations (VSOs), and the broader veteran support community.

  • Proficient using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • High energy level. Self-starter; willing to take initiative.

EXPERIENCE

Requirements

  • Seven years of fundraising or sales experience.

  • Five years of demonstrated achievement identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding mid-level donors, including at least three years of experience leading donor stewardship, major giving, planned giving, or related fundraising initiatives.

  • Three years of staff management experience, including at least two years in a fundraising leadership or equivalent leadership position.

Preferences

  • Five years of experience working in a nonprofit organization.

  • Three years of experience using Salesforce NPSP or a similar CRM.

EDUCATION

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, marketing, or related field. Equivalent combination of applicable education, training, certification, and experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
