As a Staff Backend Software Engineer at LVT, you will serve as a primary technical authority driving the design, performance, and scaling of our core backend architecture. Partnering closely with engineering leadership, cross-functional teams, and senior peers, you will architect resilient, high-velocity services that power our next-generation intelligent site technology. Beyond executing high-impact technical initiatives, you will mentor software engineers, elevate development standards, and shape our engineering culture. Success in this role is measured by your ability to transform complex business requirements into elegant, reliable cloud services while elevating the technical output of the broader engineering organization.

This role is based onsite at our American Fork headquarters.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ship High-Impact Backend Architecture: Deliver high-velocity, clean, and scalable Node.js/TypeScript code for business-critical backend systems and API services.

  • Elevate Engineering Standards: Implement modern methodologies, best practices, and code quality benchmarks to ensure high reliability, maintainability, and software performance.

  • Optimize Development Lifecycles: Identify system bottlenecks, streamline CI/CD workflows, and introduce tooling that enhances team-wide developer productivity and delivery speed.

  • Drive Cross-Functional Alignment: Partner with Product Management, QA, and DevOps to translate product visions into concrete technical specifications, accurate estimates, and seamless delivery timelines.

  • Identify Root Causes and Resolve Complex Edge Cases: Navigate ambiguous requirements and complex technical challenges, applying rigorous problem-solving to protect uptime and system resilience.

  • Act as a Go-To Thought Leader & Mentor: Mentor senior and mid-level software engineers through structured feedback, architectural design reviews, and continuous technical upskilling.

  • Pioneer Emerging Technologies: Continually evaluate industry trends, tools, and modern cloud/API frameworks to optimize LVT's backend suite for future growth.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Technical Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).

  • Extensive Backend Experience: 7+ years of professional software engineering experience centered on complex backend systems, cloud services, and API development.

  • Node.js & TypeScript Expertise: 3+ years of hands-on production experience architecting, building, and maintaining enterprise Node.js and TypeScript services.

  • API Design & Optimization: Demonstrated expertise in OpenAPI/REST API design and hands-on experience building or optimizing GraphQL queries and mutations.

  • Modern Frameworks & Infrastructure: Familiarity with modern framework ecosystems (e.g., NestJS) and containerized deployment workflows utilizing Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Data Modeling: Proficiency with relational databases (SQL experience preferred) and modern database query optimization.

  • Technical Mentorship & Influence: Proven experience guiding cross-functional technical teams, establishing engineering culture, and driving process improvements within Agile environments.

  • Quality & Ownership Mindset: Obsessive commitment to system reliability, operational quality, thorough testing, and robust root-cause problem solving.

  • Adaptable Leadership: Highly effective communication skills with the versatility to thrive in a fast-paced environment and pivot rapidly between priorities.
