Job description

Job Summary:
The Georgia Tech Research Institute (GTRI) is a nonprofit, applied research division of the Georgia Institute of Technology, seeking a Mid-Level Software Engineer for their Sensors and Electromagnetic Applications Laboratory (SEAL). The role involves designing, developing, and testing software applications while providing technical leadership and managing software development teams.
Responsibilities:
• Perform software development, debugging, modification, enhancement, and documentation
• Design, test, and develop computer software in order to meet program requirements
• Apply expertise in computing systems to define requirements and develop software designs recognizing limitations of target hardware platforms
• Develop and maintain kernel and user-level software and scripts
• Contribute to research reports, presentations, white papers, and competitive proposals
• Create and analyze network protocols
Qualifications:
Required:
• Experience with troubleshooting computing system level issues
• Experience with Linux, UNIX or Windows
• Scripting language experience such as python, bash, etc
• Knowledgeable in version control software such as GIT
• Experience managing groups of engineers in the planning and exercising of integration and test activities.
• Experience mentoring junior engineers
• Experience managing budgets, schedules, and customer interfacing activities
• Proficient in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, C, C++, C#, Ruby, Python, Scala, and Groovy.
• Extensive knowledge of programming languages, software development, computer operating systems, Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD), DevOps, Application Programming Interface (API) development, container development, and distributed systems.
• Ability to apply engineering principles to software creation, manage production releases of software, perform code reviews, merge feature development branches, and analyze and triage issues.
• Skill areas in programming and coding, fundamentals of computer science, software design and architecture development, algorithms and data structures, information analysis, software debugging and testing, and working on development teams.
• Ability to work with sponsors to curate requirements, define sprint work items, set priorities for work backlogs, and organize development teams.
Preferred:
• Active Secret Clearance
• Experience in software engineering and development
• Test automation tooling
• Experience with the basics of RF lab equipment to test and troubleshoot EW systems
• Complex programs that involved hardware, software, communications and networking
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Self-starter and ability to work in a team environment
