Location: Spirit Mountain - Grand Avenue
Pay: $13.44-$17.00/hour (Based on experience, certifications, and additional skills)
Schedule: Part-time/seasonal
Status: Non-union, Hourly
Seasonal Role: Mid-May through October (peak season late June)
Position Overview
Spirit Mountain is hiring Mountain Bike Coaches for our summer operations at Grand Avenue. If you love riding and enjoy working with people - especially kids - this is your chance to coach in one of the Midwest's best mountain biking destinations.
We're looking for instructors who are patient, positive, and know how to keep it fun and safe on the trails. Previous coaching experience is a plus, but not required. We provide training for the right candidates. Ability to assist in other departments (camp, rentals, guest services) is a bonus and may increase your rate.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead beginner and intermediate mountain bike lessons
  • Ensure a safe, encouraging learning environment for riders of all ages
  • Teach basic techniques, trail safety, and biking etiquette
  • Ride with a diverse group of campers or guests and offer hands-on instruction
  • Assist with bike setup, minor adjustments, and equipment checks
  • Collaborate with other departments as needed
  • Represent Spirit Mountain with a friendly and professional attitude

Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Solid mountain biking skills (especially trail riding and safety)
  • Good with a diverse group of people - clear communication, patience, and leadership
  • Able to adapt teaching to a variety of skill levels, cultures, and ages
  • Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather
  • Reliable and self-motivated
  • The physical ability to lift up to 30 lbs: bikes onto chair lifts and assist others/children with lifts
Bonus if You Have:
  • Coaching or instructor certifications (PMBIA, BICP, etc.)
  • Experience working with youth or in a camp setting
  • Skills in rentals, customer service, or equipment maintenance
  • First aid/CPR certification
