Mid Frontend Developer information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Mid Frontend Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Mid Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with experience in modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI design libraries is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help you stand out in team settings. These skills ensure you can create high-quality, user-friendly interfaces that work well in dynamic, cross-functional development environments.

What are some common challenges faced by mid-level frontend developers when working on cross-functional teams?

Mid-level frontend developers often collaborate with backend developers, designers, and product managers, which can sometimes lead to challenges in communication and aligning on project requirements. Balancing the need for delivering visually appealing, responsive interfaces while ensuring performance and accessibility can also be demanding. Additionally, adapting to evolving frameworks or integrating new tools as decided by the team may require continuous learning and flexibility. Successful mid-level frontend developers proactively seek feedback, clarify requirements early, and stay updated on best practices to navigate these challenges.

What are Mid Frontend Developers?

Mid Frontend Developers are professionals who specialize in building and maintaining the user-facing parts of web applications, typically with 2-4 years of experience. They are responsible for translating design mockups into interactive websites or apps using technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and backend developers, optimizing applications for speed and responsiveness, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Unlike junior developers, mid-level developers are expected to work more independently, solve moderately complex problems, and contribute to code reviews and project planning.

Job Application Deadline: 06/30/2026

The opportunity

As a Senior Frontend Software Engineer, your expertise will directly shape the architecture, quality, and long-term direction of our customer-facing products. You will drive the technical strategy for our end-to-end user experience, ensuring it scales with exponential growth and increasingly complex business requirements. This role is ideal for a seasoned engineer who leads by example - someone who thrives on translating complex data and workflows into intuitive interfaces, takes deep ownership of the full frontend lifecycle, and is energized by mentoring others while delivering high-impact work across our portfolio.

What You'll Do

  • Design and Development: Design, build, and maintain highly performant, accessible, and responsive web applications using our core frontend stack and frameworks.
  • Component Ownership: Take end-to-end ownership of key UI components and design system elements, including long-term strategy for performance optimization, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility standards.
  • Mentorship: Actively mentor junior and mid-level engineers through code reviews, pair programming, and knowledge sharing, fostering a culture of continuous growth and technical excellence.
  • Collaboration: Partner closely with UX designers and engineer leaders (Principals and Staff) to translate business requirements and design specs into polished, production-ready interfaces.
  • Quality Assurance: Champion a culture of quality by writing comprehensive unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, leading code reviews, and advocating for best practices in accessibility and maintainability.
  • Observability: Define and implement frontend monitoring and alerting strategies using Datadog to track performance metrics, error rates, and user experience health in production.
  • Incident Management: Lead the response and resolution of frontend-related production incidents, conduct root cause analyses, and drive the implementation of preventative measures at a systemic level.

The Skills and Experience You'll Bring

  • At least 7 years of experience in frontend software development with a consistent track record of delivering high-quality, high-impact work at scale.
  • Deep proficiency in modern JavaScript/TypeScript and the broader ecosystem, including build tooling, bundlers, and performance optimization.
  • Expert-level knowledge of frontend frameworks such as Angular, React, and/or web components, with the ability to make and defend architectural choices between them.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and evolving component libraries or design systems used across multiple teams or products.
  • Strong command of RESTful and GraphQL APIs and patterns for integrating complex frontend applications with backend services.
  • Hands-on experience deploying and managing frontend applications on AWS (e.g., CloudFront, S3), with an understanding of CDN strategy, caching, and infrastructure as it relates to frontend performance.
  • Solid understanding of containerization (Docker) and CI/CD pipelines as they apply to frontend development workflows.
  • Deep expertise in Datadog or equivalent tools for frontend monitoring, distributed tracing, logging, and observability.
  • Mastery of web performance best practices, browser rendering pipelines, and accessibility (WCAG) standards - and the ability to evangelize these across the organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical discussions, influence cross-functional stakeholders, and drive consensus on complex decisions.
  • Experience working with AI and/or Spec Driven Development
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience presenting technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
