Mid Frontend Developer information

What is a mid frontend developer?

Mid Frontend Developers are professionals who specialize in building and maintaining the user-facing parts of web applications, typically with 2-4 years of experience. They are responsible for translating design mockups into interactive websites or apps using technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.js. Their role often involves collaborating with designers and backend developers, optimizing applications for speed and responsiveness, and ensuring cross-browser compatibility. Unlike junior developers, mid-level developers are expected to work more independently, solve moderately complex problems, and contribute to code reviews and project planning.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a mid frontend developer?

To thrive as a Mid Frontend Developer, you need strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, along with experience in modern frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue and a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems (such as Git), build tools, and UI design libraries is commonly expected. Strong problem-solving, effective communication, and a collaborative mindset help you stand out in team settings. These skills ensure you can create high-quality, user-friendly interfaces that work well in dynamic, cross-functional development environments.

What are some common challenges faced by mid frontend developers when working on cross-functional teams?

Mid-level frontend developers often collaborate with backend developers, designers, and product managers, which can sometimes lead to challenges in communication and aligning on project requirements. Balancing the need for delivering visually appealing, responsive interfaces while ensuring performance and accessibility can also be demanding. Additionally, adapting to evolving frameworks or integrating new tools as decided by the team may require continuous learning and flexibility. Successful mid-level frontend developers proactively seek feedback, clarify requirements early, and stay updated on best practices to navigate these challenges.

This role involves engineering responsive web applications and architecting an API layer to deliver real-time data while ensuring compliance with government security requirements.
Responsibilities:

• Build and maintain scalable RESTful and GraphQL APIs using Node.js, Python (FastAPI/Flask), or Java (Spring Boot) for third-party data access.
• Implement authentication and authorization patterns including OAuth2, OIDC, mTLS, and RBAC to ensure secure external data access.
• Design and optimize relational (PostgreSQL) and non-relational (Elasticsearch, Redis) data store interactions.
• Containerize applications with Docker and deploy to Kubernetes on AWS in coordination with the DevSecOps team.
• Ensure all code meets DISA STIG requirements and addresses the OWASP Top 10 throughout the development lifecycle.
• Integrate with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Helm charts for deployment across environments.
• Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance for junior developers, and serve as the SME for third-party API integration.
• Maintain technical documentation, API specifications, and integration guides.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Current TS/SCI clearance with Polygraph.

• Advanced proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript and React, including Redux and Context API.
• Strong experience building APIs with Node.js, Python (FastAPI/Flask), or Java (Spring Boot).
