Job Description

The Drafter supports engineering and project teams by creating accurate and detailed drawings, models, and diagrams using standardized drafting techniques and CAD software. This role translates sketches, calculations, and verbal instructions into coherent design documents, applies established drafting standards, and collaborates closely with engineers, project managers, and other drafters to ensure high-quality deliverables for a variety of projects. The position supports a nationally recognized, employee-focused engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) organization known for delivering integrated solutions across critical infrastructure markets, including power, transmission and distribution, aviation, manufacturing, water, telecommunications, and transportation.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and preparing detailed drawings by applying standardized drawing techniques based on detailed sketches, verbal instructions, and notes provided by engineers.
  • Collect initial drawings, calculations, and design concepts from engineers and integrate relevant data into coherent and complete initial design models for review and modification.
  • Apply company, client, and project drafting standards and procedures to develop control schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment connection diagrams.
  • Coordinate with engineers and project managers to understand project requirements and verify design details in alignment with company standards and best practices.
  • Support a range of drawing production activities, including problem analysis, layout, detailing, and drafting on projects of substantial variety and complexity.
  • Collaborate with designers and drafters in other disciplines to ensure consistency and integration across project drawings.
  • Communicate and correspond effectively with internal design resources, external clients, and other project personnel to clarify requirements and resolve drawing-related issues.
  • Execute design changes and project drawing revisions accurately and in a timely manner, ensuring all documentation reflects current design intent.
  • Maintain proficiency in CAD software and actively work toward mastering current CAD systems and tools used by the team.

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for creating and modifying detailed drawings and models.
  • Experience using MicroStation for drafting and design tasks.
  • Strong drafting and design skills with the ability to interpret engineering sketches, calculations, and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to produce control schematics, wiring diagrams, and equipment connection diagrams in accordance with established standards.
  • Solid understanding of company, client, and project drafting standards and the ability to apply them consistently.
  • Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers, project managers, designers, and external clients.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in preparing, reviewing, and revising drawings.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to a variety of project types and complexities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with Revit for model-based design and drafting.
  • Experience with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and mechanical design drafting.
  • Experience with Civil 3D for civil and infrastructure-related drafting.
  • Experience or exposure to structural design concepts.
  • Associate of Science (AS) in Drafting or a closely related field.
  • Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering Technology or a related discipline.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $28.00/hr.
