Job description

Overview

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Director of Investigations & Intelligence to lead Microsoft's global investigative, intelligence, threat management, and executive threat intelligence functions. This leader will oversee enterprise-wide efforts to identify, assess, investigate, and mitigate risks impacting Microsoft employees, executives, facilities, operations, and brand.
The Director will champion an intelligence-led, prevention-first approach to security by integrating investigative excellence, advanced threat assessment methodologies, intelligence analysis, and emerging technologies to proactively identify risks and drive enterprise resilience.
Responsibilities
Global Investigations Leadership
• Lead Microsoft's Global Security Investigations program across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia.
• Oversee investigations involving:
• Workplace violence
• Employee misconduct
• Insider threats
• Theft and asset protection
• Threats against personnel
• Security incidents
• Corporate policy violations
• Criminal activity impacting Microsoft personnel or facilities.
• Ensure investigative processes are conducted with professionalism, discretion, objectivity, and legal compliance.
• Drive consistency in investigative standards, methodologies, reporting, and case management globally.
Intelligence & Threat Analysis
• Lead Microsoft's Global Intelligence and Executive Threat Intelligence programs.
• Direct intelligence collection, analysis, production, and dissemination activities supporting executive protection, security operations, event security, travel security, and enterprise risk management.
• Monitor geopolitical developments, civil unrest, activism, insider threats, emerging risks, and strategic threats impacting Microsoft operations globally.
• Deliver actionable intelligence products and executive briefings that enable informed decision-making and risk mitigation.
Threat Management & Executive Risk
• Oversee executive threat management and protective intelligence programs.
• Provide leadership for the identification, assessment, and mitigation of Persons of Interest (POIs) and Groups of Interest (GOIs).
• Ensure robust threat assessment processes are in place to protect Microsoft executives, employees, and critical assets.
• Partner closely with Executive Protection to support secure operations and executive safety worldwide.
Strategic Risk Leadership
• Serve as a trusted advisor to senior executives regarding threat trends, emerging risks, investigations, and enterprise security concerns.
• Translate complex intelligence and investigative findings into strategic business recommendations.
• Support crisis management, business continuity, and enterprise response efforts during high-impact incidents.
• Provide leadership during significant security events involving employee safety, geopolitical crises, demonstrations, executive threats, and other enterprise risks.
Technology & Innovation
• Drive modernization of investigative and intelligence capabilities through AI, advanced analytics, and automation.
• Champion intelligence fusion, threat assessment technologies, and AI-enabled investigative tools.
• Enhance operational effectiveness through data-driven insights and scalable technologies.
Partnerships & Stakeholder Engagement
• Develop strong partnerships with:
• Human Resources

• Corporate Affairs
• Executive Protection
• Regional Security Operations
• Government Affairs
• Corporate Communications
• Business Leadership Teams
• Establish and maintain trusted relationships with law enforcement, intelligence agencies, and public/private-sector security partners globally.
• Represent Microsoft Global Security in external security and intelligence forums.

• Lead and develop a high-performing team of investigators, intelligence analysts, threat managers, and program managers.
• Foster a culture of accountability, operational excellence, inclusion, continuous learning, and innovation.
• Recruit, mentor, and retain top talent across global security disciplines.
• Build organizational capability and succession pipelines across the investigations and intelligence functions.

Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Law, International Relations, Global Intelligence, or related field AND 8+ years experience in compliance, cyber, finance, data analytics, investigations, computer forensics, threat intelligence, or related field
    • OR Master's Degree in Business, Accounting, Criminal Justice, Law, International Relations, Global Intelligence, or related field AND 6+ years experience in compliance, cyber, finance, data analytics, investigations, computer forensics, threat intelligence, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience.

Specifically, this position supports United States federal, state, and/or local government agency customers and is subject to certain citizenship-based restrictions where required or permitted by applicable law. To meet this legal requirement, and as a condition of employment, the successful candidate's citizenship will be verified with a valid passport.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate security, intelligence, law enforcement, government, military, or related disciplines.
  • 10+ years managing investigations, intelligence, threat assessment, or protective intelligence programs.
  • Proven experience leading global teams and operating in complex multinational environments.
  • Experience managing executive-level investigations, crisis response, and enterprise risk matters.
  • Executive communication and briefing skills.
  • Demonstrated success leading cross-functional initiatives and influencing senior leaders.
  • Master's degree in Criminal Justice, Intelligence Studies, Security Management, Public Administration, International Relations, or related field.
  • Experience in technology, Fortune 500, or multinational corporate environments.
  • Expertise in behavioral threat assessment methodologies.
  • Experience leveraging AI, analytics, and intelligence technologies.
  • Established relationships within public safety, intelligence, investigative, or security networks.
  • Professional certifications such as CPP, PCI, PSP, CFE, or equivalent.

Investigations M6 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $130,900 - $277,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $165,600 - $303,600 per year.
