Job description

SQL Data Engineer
We are seeking a Data Engineer to design, develop, test, and support SQL Server database solutions, SSIS packages, and ETL processes that power enterprise data integration, reporting, and analytics. This role is ideal for a hands-on data professional who enjoys building reliable data solutions, improving performance, supporting production environments, and partnering with business and technical teams.
The Data Engineer will work across SQL development, ETL, data quality, reporting support, and documentation to help deliver scalable, accurate, and maintainable data solutions.
What You'll Do
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain SQL Server database objects, including stored procedures, views, functions, tables, indexes, and scripts.
  • Write, troubleshoot, and optimize complex T-SQL queries and stored procedures.
  • Build, enhance, and support SSIS packages and ETL workflows.
  • Extract, transform, validate, and load data from multiple source systems into operational databases, staging areas, data warehouses, and reporting environments.
  • Translate business and technical requirements into reliable SQL and ETL solutions.
  • Support data warehouse and reporting needs, including source-to-target mapping, fact and dimension tables, incremental loads, and historical data handling.
  • Perform data profiling, validation, reconciliation, and issue resolution to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
  • Monitor production database and ETL jobs, investigate failures, document root cause, and implement corrective actions.
  • Improve database, ETL, and reporting environments through automation, reusable patterns, better error handling, and process discipline.
  • Collaborate with business users, analysts, developers, data engineers, DBAs, and QA resources throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Maintain technical documentation, including data mappings, ETL specifications, deployment notes, job dependencies, and support procedures.
  • Participate in code reviews, unit testing, peer validation, release management, and source control practices.
Requirements
  • 3-5 years of professional experience developing Microsoft SQL Server solutions.
  • Strong T-SQL experience, including stored procedures, views, functions, tables, indexes, and query optimization.
  • 3-5 years of hands-on experience writing, troubleshooting, and tuning SQL queries for data integration, reporting, application support, or operational data needs.
  • 2-4 years of experience developing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and deploying SSIS packages or comparable ETL/data integration workflows.
  • 2-4 years of experience with data warehouse concepts, including staging, source-to-target mapping, fact and dimension tables, data quality validation, incremental loads, and historical data handling.
  • 1-3 years of experience supporting reporting or analytics environments such as SSRS, Power BI datasets, semantic models, or other BI tools.
  • Understanding of relational database design, normalization, indexing, data modeling fundamentals, and design tradeoffs for transactional, integration, and reporting workloads.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to diagnose data issues, validate results, identify root cause, and implement corrective actions.
  • Ability to produce accurate, well-tested technical deliverables, including SQL code, ETL packages, test evidence, deployment notes, and documentation.
  • Working knowledge of source control and release management practices.
  • Ability to work effectively within Scrum processes, including estimating work, participating in sprint planning, communicating progress, and completing assignments on time.
  • Strong professional demeanor, accountability, confidentiality, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Preferences
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Data Engineering, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Equivalent professional experience may be considered in place of a degree.
