Job description

Summary
The Scenic / Décor Technician sets and strikes scenic and decor elements for live events. This role requires solid carpentry skills, confident use of hand and power tools, comfort with long, irregular hours, and the ability to lift and carry heavy items. Technicians must be self-driven, safety-focused, and effective working in fast-paced environments alongside production teams.
Key Responsibilities
  • Load-in / Load-out: Unload and reload trucks; move cases and scenic pieces safely.
  • Assembly & Installation: Build, install, and finish scenic/decor elements per plans, drawings, or onsite direction.
  • Tool Use & Carpentry: Operate hand/power tools (saws, drills, impacts, sanders); measure, cut, and fasten materials accurately.
  • Forklift / Scissor Lift: Safely operate forklift and/or MEWP (scissor lift); use fall protection when applicable (training/certification required).
  • Safety & Housekeeping: Follow site safety protocols (PPE, trip-hazard mitigation); maintain a clean, organized workspace.
  • Stagehand Support: Work as part of a general labor/stagehand crew across staging, truss, AV, and lighting as needed.
  • Strike: De-install scenic/decor, pack and label items, and load trucks for return to the warehouse.
  • Communication: Provide progress updates; surface issues early; collaborate with Crew Lead/Scenic & Décor Manager.
  • Process Compliance: Use company systems (time entry, job acceptance app, inventory labeling) and meet submission deadlines.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Reliable transportation to event locations wherever they may be.
  • Good physical condition; able to lift at least 75 lbs independently.
  • Background in carpentry and confident use of hand/power tools.
  • Team orientation: Able to take direction from a Crew Lead.
  • Payroll readiness: Willing to complete W-2/I-9 paperwork and follow payroll processes (submit work times by deadlines).

Preferred Qualifications
  • Valid forklift and/or scissor lift (MEWP) certification (employer training may be provided).
  • Experience driving box trucks with a clean driving record.
  • Prior general labor / stagehand experience (live events, trade shows, theater).

Schedule & Work Conditions
This work is temporary/on-call. You'll be offered jobs via e-mail or phone app, which you can accept or decline based on availability. Removal/strike may occur the same day, a different day, or weeks later, depending on the event. Most work is on weekends and during late-night or early-morning shifts.
Physical Requirements & Essential Functions
  • Regularly use hands to handle objects, tools, or controls.
  • Able to stand, walk, climb/balance, stoop, and kneel for extended periods; occasionally sit.
  • Regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs, frequently up to 100 lbs, and occasionally more than 100 lbs with assistance.
