Proper training and certification are often required to operate a MEWP safely.

To thrive as a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) Operator, individuals must have mechanical aptitude, spatial awareness, and a valid MEWP operator or IPAF certification. Familiarity with various MEWP types, such as scissor lifts and boom lifts, as well as safe operation procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE) is crucial. Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and a strong safety mindset are key soft skills for this position. These qualifications ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operation in construction, maintenance, and industrial environments.

What are the typical daily responsibilities of a MEWP Operator?

As a MEWP Operator, your daily tasks usually include conducting pre-operation safety checks on equipment, maneuvering mobile platforms to required heights, and safely assisting crews with installation, maintenance, or repair work at elevation. You’ll collaborate closely with site supervisors and team members to ensure tasks are completed according to safety protocols. Operators must remain vigilant about surroundings, potential hazards, and changing weather conditions that could impact job safety. This role often requires adaptability in dynamic work environments and a commitment to ongoing safety training. With experience, MEWP Operators may have opportunities to take on supervisory roles or specialize in complex operational tasks.
