In the Global Products Group, we are dedicated to excellence in the design and engineering of Lam's etch and deposition products. We drive innovation to ensure our cutting-edge solutions are helping to solve the biggest challenges in the semiconductor industry.
The impact you'll make
The Managing Director, Global Metrology & Imaging, leads Lam's enterprise metrology team of technologists and operators across Lam's global lab network, enabling Lam's development and demonstration of Etch, Deposition, and Clean products. The role requires business acumen, technical depth, and strong interpersonal skills, as this leader is responsible for:
  • Developing global metrology and imaging strategy and roadmaps.
  • Aligning technical requirements across business technology teams.
  • Managing complex co-development programs with global suppliers.
  • Planning multi-year global investments and operating budgets.
  • Negotiating, acquiring, installing, and maintaining a wide variety of technically complex and expensive instruments.
  • Providing expert services to enable process engineers to utilize different instrument types to solve challenging and complex experiment measurement problems.
  • Defining data structures to create high-quality data to enhance user outcomes and enable modeling and reuse.

Lam's global labs are centers of innovation for the company, hosting a full range of business-critical activities, from fundamental research, proof of concept, product design and validation, tool process development, and tool productivity improvement. Metrology and imaging are essential to this innovation mission, and Lam invests heavily in these technologies. As Lam expands its global lab footprint, the metrology and imaging group is expected to grow significantly.
Responsibilities may include a combination of the following:
  • Hardware Development: Directs, leads, and manages the technical activities of a hardware development function for electronic design, mechanical design, and/or hardware reliability.
  • Software Development: Directs, leads, and manages the technical activities of a software development function for software systems, applications, and/or software quality assurance.
  • Systems Design: Directs, leads, and manages the technical activities of an integrated hardware/software systems design function.

What you'll do
Enterprise Metrology Strategy
  • Define Lam-wide roadmap for metrology across the global lab network to meet the combined needs of the product and process development teams from the Etch and Deposition Product Groups.
  • Align investments to advanced node transitions (GAA, High-NA, 3D NAND).
  • Position metrology as a core differentiator for Lam's product and process development, ensuring Lam is at the cutting edge of metrology and imaging technology in the research and development space.

Portfolio & Business Impact
  • Own Lam's metrology and imaging portfolio, optimizing cost and benefit across Lam's global lab network.
  • Define business and financial models to demonstrate ROI of metrology investment decisions.

Cross-Product Group Integration
  • Align Etch, Deposition (CVD, ALD, wet Deposition), Clean, and Packaging teams on existing and emerging metrology and imaging technologies to support future lab work.
  • Lead prioritization of investments across product groups, technologies, and sites to optimize ROI.

Supplier and Customer Co-Innovation
  • Partner with leading suppliers and customers to identify measurement needs early in the development process.
  • Lead Joint Development Programs (JDPs) with suppliers to create unique and differentiating solutions for Lam process and product development teams.
  • Position Lam solutions to align with customers and ensure comparable results.

What you'll do (continued)
Data, AI & Computational Metrology
  • Standardize data architecture across technology platforms to deliver effective metrology and imaging results to engineers/users.
  • Drive AI/ML-based defect detection and measurement to improve speed and quality of experiment measurements.
  • Define and report data quality parameters to users to assist them in assessing experiment results.

Integrated Metrology Leadership
  • Lead development of multi-technology/multi-instrument solutions to emerging technical problems, allowing Lam to demonstrate the performance of its tools at the leading edge of semiconductor research and development and manufacturing performance.
  • Lead integration of solutions with an understanding of process physics, sensors, imaging, and control algorithms.

Organization & Leadership
  • Lead global teams across a wide range of disciplines, including technologists (including PhDs), semiconductor process engineers, hardware engineers, product service engineers, data scientists, technicians, and operators, installing, servicing, and operating a full suite of metrology and imaging tools and instruments at multiple U.S. and international labs.
  • Build technical depth and leadership bench across disciplines and sites.
  • Foster innovation, accountability, and execution excellence.

Who we're looking for
  • 8-20+ years in semiconductor capital equipment (Lam or adjacent).
  • Significantly successful leadership role progression at approximately the Managing Director and VP level in global, matrixed environments.
  • Track record with metrology, inspection, and imaging; multi-site, multi-national, and high-volume operations; and technical, operational, and financial management.

Preferred qualifications
  • Broad expertise in metrology, inspection, and imaging technology.
  • Strong understanding of semiconductor fab/lab operations, with a deep understanding of Etch and Deposition processes.
  • Experience with APC, SPC, fab automation, and AI/ML.

'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.
