Job description

Josselyn, a nonprofit community mental health center, has been serving people since 1951 when Dr. Irene Josselyn saw a need for kids and families to get help without worrying about the cost. Today, Josselyn is known for its excellent mental health care, offering outpatient therapy, psychiatry, case management, employment support and intensive programs for youth. With 6 locations in northern Cook and Lake County, Josselyn is a high-quality affordable option serving more than 7,500 people annually. Due to our excellent programming, depth and breadth of services, financial strength, staffing and outstanding leadership, Josselyn was honored in June 2024 by being the only nonprofit named to Crain's Chicago Business Fast 50 list.
Job Summary
SEL Consultant is responsible for providing school-based interventions for about 30 students who require individual or small group SEL sessions. Consultant is responsible for student groups and schedule, based on school multi-tier system of supports (MTSS) meetings, collected/analyzed student behavior data and classroom observations. Consultant will coordinate progress and data with school admin and teachers to act as a thought partner for school personnel. Consultant will collaborate with school teams to ensure appropriate interventions are implemented based on student need and symptoms, for students on their caseloads. Consultant will provide other classroom or students supports as appropriate and requested by the assigned school.
Schedule and Compensation
  • Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM
  • $50,000 - $60,000 based on experience

Essential Responsibilities and Metrics
  • Consultant will collaborate with school support personnel to select appropriate students to receive intervention. Consultant will provide referral and assessment forms for school support members/teachers to complete upon referral for services. Consultant will attend MTSS/multi-disciplinary meetings to provide consultation and assessment for ongoing cases, inform referral processes, or provide guidance on student referrals and school wide SEL supports.
  • Consultant will provide evidence-based group interventions as determined by student needs. Consultant will solely lead or co-facilitate groups with school identified staff. Consultant will also conduct individual counseling sessions for students who would benefit from crisis stabilization, brief short-term psychoeducational, suicide or homicidal assessments, or more long-term clinical supports to ensure students develop health habits.
  • Consultant will also partner with schools to develop and facilitate parent or staff workshops that focus on the assessed needs of students and skill development.
  • When appropriate, Josselyn clinicians will support students during disciplinary process by conducting peer-peer mediation, brief counseling and stabilization. Josselyn clinicians will not assign discipline or consult with families regarding discipline incident.

Qualifications
  • Master's or working towards a masters in a related graduate degree in social services.
  • Experience working with children, family or schools.
  • 3+ years' experience working in school systems and/or community health-based organizations.
  • Three professional references that reflect ability to perform clinical and school-based work.
