Location: San Diego
Job Type: Full Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Monday - Friday
Salary Range: $25.00 - $29.91 - $33.25 (Based on experience)
About Us & Job Summary
Metis Practice Solutions is a professional management services organization that values caring, collaboration, and commitment to the independent medical practices in the San Diego community.
We're looking for a detail-oriented Revenue Cycle Specialist to be a critical part of our Revenue Cycle team. In this role, you'll be part of a team responsible for charge submission, claim follow-up, appeals, and denial resolution while safeguarding patient and employee confidentiality.
What You'll Do:
  • Manage patient accounts receivable, including payment arrangements, collections, and follow-up on delinquent accounts
  • Handle inbound and outbound calls with patients and insurance carriers to resolve billing inquiries, verify eligibility and benefits, and check claim status
  • Work denials and appeals proactively, researching and resolving discrepancies to maximize reimbursement
  • Review and verify patient statements for accuracy prior to distribution
  • Serve as a liaison between patients, clients, and health plans - providing clear, compassionate billing support
  • Maintain strict compliance with HIPAA regulations and all federal, state, and local requirements
  • Follow established policies and procedures, and flag compliance concerns appropriately
  • Identify and act on opportunities to add value within the billing department

What You Bring
Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3-5 years of medical billing experience
  • 1-3 years of customer service experience
  • Experience with patient collections
  • Proficiency with Electronic Practice Management (EPM) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems (EPIC)
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    Preferred:
  • Medical insurance billing certificate
  • Knowledge of CPT, ICD, and HCPCS coding
  • Familiarity with HMO/PPO, Medicare, Medicaid, and other payer guidelines

Skills & Competencies:
  • Strong grasp of medical terminology and insurance billing processes
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Patience and professionalism when working with patients and insurers
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and stay organized under pressure
  • Comfortable with 10-key and basic math calculations
  • High level of discretion and commitment to patient confidentiality
  • Collaborative team player who can also work independently
