Job description

Overview
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced machinist looking to come off the shop floor and utilize their knowledge and experience in a new way. Machine Shop Methods Analyst are required to utilize machining and manufacturing technical knowledge and experience in making decisions for creating effective manufacturing and assembly travelers. The Machine Shop Methods Analyst for Virginia and Columbia class submarine components will be responsible for generating detailed methods for machining and assembly processes, as well as establishing target hours and span time estimates.
  • Interpreting Engineering / Design plan requirements to develop detailed machinists work instructions
  • Determine manufacturing process steps required to attain optimal workflow through all machining, assembly, welding, and quality control work center operations
  • Identify specific machines and asset work centers required to perform each operation while utilizing experience and knowledge to satisfy all safety, quality, capacity, cost, and schedule considerations
  • Identify specific work-holding or tooling requirements needed at each machine or work center in order to perform each operation
  • Analyze operation and work center requirements to establish accurate set up and cycle time estimates
  • Identify the need for the development of machine programs, special tooling procurement, and fixture design and development to ensure the ability to efficiently meet all manufacturing specifications and requirements
  • Serve as a liaison between Design, Engineering, Planning, and Operations to resolve manufacturing issues

Qualifications
Required:
  • High school diploma
  • 4+ years of production manufacturing machine shop experience as a machinist or machine operator

Preferred:
  • 5+ years of EB machine shop experience as a machinist or machine operator
  • 10+ years of machine shop experience as a machinist or machine operator
  • Vocational/Trade school graduate
  • Apprentice graduate
  • Working Knowledge of PCM, EWP, ELCADD and Teamcenter
  • Related experience in Methods, CNC programming, Design Engineering, Assembly, Welding, and/or Quality control

Skills
  • Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Database navigation)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong mechanical blueprint reading skills
  • Ability to multitask
  • Well rounded experience with milling, turning, grinding, CNC machining and manufacturing processes
