Effective counselors utilize evidence-based interventions, set clear boundaries, and seek regular supervision or peer support to maintain their own well-being while providing the best care for clients.

What are methadone clinics?

Methadone clinics are specialized medical facilities that provide methadone, a medication used to treat opioid use disorder. These clinics offer supervised dosing, counseling, and support services to help individuals reduce or eliminate their dependence on opioids like heroin or prescription painkillers. Methadone treatment is part of a broader approach called medication-assisted treatment (MAT), which combines medication with behavioral therapy to improve recovery outcomes. Patients usually visit the clinic daily at first, and over time, some may earn take-home doses based on their progress and stability.
