The Role
Analyzes, researches, designs and interprets metallurgical fabrication processes and testing programs. Develops, analyzes, researches, and designs casting molds and casting production techniques, procedures, and applications. Provides technical guidance during casting production operations, including additions of different materials and modification of heat treatment plans to achieve specifications. Works with other engineering disciplines to test, analyze and determine root cause of defects and failures found in metal products. Prepares technical documentation including reports, specifications, procedures, and guides. Creates new or modifies current test methods, fabrication methods, techniques, and procedures in order to improve metal products based on metallurgical theories. Provides technical guidance to other engineering disciplines for the selection of metal alloys for specific applications to optimize strength, toughness, durability and corrosion resistance

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.
Nice to Have
Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOD Security Clearance
Must have a valid driver's license and the ability to drive within the Shipyard to perform duties of this position
Materials Science Engineering Bachelor's Degree or similar required. Metallurgical Engineering focus preferred.
