Job description

Meta is seeking an Industrial Designer to help shape the future of consumer hardware across its portfolio of devices, including augmented reality glasses, virtual reality headsets, and wearable technology. As a hands-on design lead, you will set the creative and strategic direction for industrial design across multiple product lines, influencing how hundreds of millions of people experience spatial computing and connected devices. You will operate at the intersection of design vision, engineering feasibility, and human-centered research, driving the physical and visual language of Meta hardware at a company-wide scale.
Responsibilities
Define and champion the long-term industrial design vision and physical design for Meta's consumer hardware portfolio, including AR glasses, VR headsets, and wearable devices
• Lead concept development from early ideation through production, translating human-centered insights into refined, manufacturable products
• Establish design principles, material strategies, and CMF (color, material, finish) direction that unify the aesthetic identity across product lines
• Partner with engineering, product management, and research teams to resolve complex ergonomic, mechanical, and optical integration challenges inherent to wearable and spatial computing devices
• Drive alignment on design direction with executive stakeholders through compelling presentations, physical prototypes, and design rationale documentation
• Mentor and provide design direction to other designers across the organization, elevating craft and raising the quality bar for the entire industrial design function
• Identify and frame ambiguous, long-horizon design problems and develop structured approaches to solving them across multiple concurrent programs
• Collaborate with manufacturing partners and material suppliers to explore novel fabrication techniques and emerging materials relevant to wearable hardware
• Contribute to the evolution of Meta's design process and tooling, including integration of AI-assisted design workflows and rapid prototyping methodologies
• Represent the industrial design perspective in cross-functional forums, ensuring design intent is preserved through engineering, manufacturing, and go-to-market phases
Minimum Qualifications
• 12+ years of professional industrial design experience with a focus on consumer electronics, wearable technology, or spatial computing devices
• Demonstrated portfolio of shipped consumer hardware products that reflect a high standard of form, ergonomics, and CMF execution
• Experience leading design strategy and creative direction across multiple simultaneous hardware programs at an organizational level
• Proficiency in 3D CAD surfacing tools (such as Alias, Rhino, SolidWorks, Creo) and experience in collaborating with engineering development teams to solve complex wearable or handheld device geometries
• Experience communicating design vision and rationale to leadership through prototypes, renderings, and verbal/written presentations
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience designing wearable devices, with an understanding of the unique interaction and human factors associated with that category of products
• Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI-assisted design tools to accelerate concept exploration, form iteration, or workflow efficiency
• Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
• Experience establishing or evolving a product design language system across a family of related consumer hardware products
• Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
• Familiarity with advanced manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, metal forming/casting, and textile integration
