Job description

Messaging Engineer

The Messenger Engineer role is responsible for the support, engineering and operation of the global messaging infrastructure and mobile device management platforms. Resolve complex technical issues related to system availability, performance, and end-user experience. Provide direct support to other infrastructure and application teams as it relates to messaging and mobility as well as third-level support for end-users. Manage escalation of issues to other third-level support teams and vendors. Proactively monitor systems for stability and performance issues and perform regular reporting of system metrics for capacity planning purposes. Participates in the implementation and delivery of messaging projects.

Monitor user support requests escalations to the team by email, phone or our IT Service Management system. Triage, investigate and address issues identified. Work with staff to escalate and resolve issues, which may include direct interaction with outside vendors. Provide timely feedback to the end user on the status of their issue or request.

Seek, and deliver on, opportunities to drive change and innovation, evolving the infrastructure and end user experience towards best-in-class from a functionality, supportability, reliability, and availability standpoint. Document and communicate platform standards to other IT groups.

Work in conjunction with the Architecture team and provide input into the overall strategy for messaging and mobile technologies. Provide subject matter expertise and support assistance for projects seeking to leverage the messaging and mobile computing environment. Coordinate and execute production changes related to operations and project activities. Document and record implementation steps for future reference. Understand and remain current on messaging and mobile device technologies and trends.

Collaborate with Security Governance and Security Operations to ensure email and mobile device security is maintained. Work with new software technologies and be able to understand and learn the new technologies as needed or delegated by manager. Perform monthly maintenance during designated weekend maintenance periods. Participate in rotating on-call schedule.

Skills We're Seeking

  • Strong understanding of mobile device management (MDM) platforms
  • Strong experience with Exchange 2016/2019
  • Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online and Teams) experience
  • Strong experience with Email archive systems, SMTP, Proofpoint and other messaging products.
  • Strong understanding of Active Directory and Microsoft Windows 2016/2019 Server.

Nice To Have Experience:

  • Understanding of unified communication technologies including Skype for Business.
  • Experience with PowerShell scripting and automation techniques in a Windows environment.
