Job description

Cleans and maintains the buildings and grounds to ensure the neatness and cleanliness of the same daily; performs routine repairs and maintenance of buildings and equipment; performs minor plumbing, electrical, and carpentry repair work. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This job description should not be interpreted as all-inclusive.  It is intended to identify the essential functions and requirements of this position.  The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this job description. Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies. Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks. Cleans windows; dusts and polishes furniture and fixtures. Cleans kitchen, activity room, kitchen appliances and/or dining area; washes dishes. Empties trash cans regularly; collects trash from grounds. Assists in setting up meeting rooms; sets up tables and chairs. Monitors light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary. Performs routine building maintenance activities; performs minor pluming repairs required by leaking faucets and clogged toilets; performs carpentry work required to repair dents and/or holes in walls and paints walls. Performs routine electrical repairs; replaces and adds receptacles; repairs light fixtures; performs other miscellaneous electrical repairs. Performs maintenance and repair of Salvation Army buildings and quarters; repairs roofs, sidings, doors, and steps, etc. Paints inside and outside of all Salvation Army buildings. Assembles and moves office furniture including chairs, desks, tables, bulletin boards, etc. Drives truck in order to pick up materials and repair items needed for maintenance work. Cleans surroundings after each repair job; ensures that all tools are collected and surroundings are left neat and clean. Monitors lighting and changes light bulbs when needed. Maintains all tools, supplies, parts, and equipment belonging to the Maintenance Department. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Displays special signs as needed. Assists in performing building maintenance and repair work. Assists in performing grounds keeping work. May drive Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver miscellaneous items or to transport passengers. Performs other related work as required. 

No formal education or experience required, Six months experience performing general housekeeping duties, Or Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Drivers License. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning activities for buildings and grounds. Ability to follow instructions and work independently. MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read and communicate the English language. Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work. Ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull heavy (50-100+ lbs.) materials, supplies, and equipment frequently.   Ability to perform duties through a combination of standing, walking, climbing ladders or steps, bending, reaching, or transporting merchandise on frequent change basis relieved by fewer periods of sitting or operating a vehicle. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in a lodge/shelter/residential facility with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.
