Job description

Primary Purpose

To experience Mountaire's culture first-hand and provide additional exposure of Mountaire's family-oriented work environment. The intern will work on a project focused on analyzing profitability drivers and business performance metrics across Agri-Business operations. The project will involve gathering and organizing data, evaluating trends, identifying opportunities for improvement, and developing recommendations to support decision making. The intern will present findings and insights to department leadership at the conclusion of the internship.  

Project Highlights

  • This internship directly supports the Agri-Business department's 2027 initiatives by strengthening our analytical, risk management, and financial decision-making capabilities.
  • The intern will gain hands-on experience analyzing profitability, evaluating operational and market impacts on margins, and identifying opportunities for process improvements.     
  • The role also contributes to the department's focus on developing future talent with expertise in agricultural business, analytics, and commercial operations.

Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an associate or bachelor's degree at an accredited college or university (Interest in grain merchandising, risk management, finance preferred).
  • Valid Driver's license and willing to travel between sites.
  • Must pass the Mountaire Motor Vehicle Record check.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Word and Excel. 
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills. 
  • Ability to work with large datasets and identify trends. 
  • Basic understanding of financial statements and probability analysis.

Internship Program Requirements

  • Complete assigned project identified by department mentor
  • Attend weekly seminar series across different Mountaire facilities
  • Other duties as assigned
  • All interns must be available to travel to Delaware during the last week of the program for final presentations (August 2 - 6, 2027)
  • All interns are required to complete a 10-minute presentation on their project at the conclusion of summer. Presentations will take place in Millsboro, DE at the Administrative Building during the week of August 2-6.
  • All interns must complete a mid-way evaluation (week 5) along with a final evaluation (week 10)
  • Anticipated weekly schedule for this internship is M-F, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
