Job description

Job Title: Menu Technician

Location: RWJUH Rahway Hospital

Department Name: Dietary-Management

Pay Range: $18.62-18.62 per hour

The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Qualification:

  • Requires a high school diploma
  • Ability to read and write in the English language

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Ful-time
  • Days
  • Flexibility required, varied days

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for assisting patients on the telephone and at the bedside with ordering meals,
  • Enters menu selections into the Room Service computer and generates meal tickets,
  • Ensures that the meal selections are in accordance with the physician s diet prescription,
  • Assists patients on the telephone and at the bedside with ordering meals,
  • Enters selections into the Room Service computer,
  • Exhibits positive customer service behaviors and communication skills when interacting with patients and families,
  • Serves as a patient advocate and responds to patient, family and visitor concerns,
  • Participates in orientation of new staff members,
  • Serves as a preceptor for students,
  • Provides required educational experiences and evaluates student performance,
  • Performs job functions in accordance with Department policies, standards and the Nutrition Care Manual,
  • Exhibits excellent telephone communication skills,
  • Responds appropriately, accurately records and relays messages and transfers phone calls when necessary,
  • Prepare daily list of tube feedings for each nursing unit,
  • Completes the daily diet count,
  • Applies knowledge of growth and development over the life span, when assisting patients with menu selections,
  • Ensures that meal selections are in accordance with the physicians diet prescription and the Nutrition Care Manual,
  • Correctly processes orders received through the order entry system in a timely manner,
  • Updates Room Service computers based on diet requisitions and admission, discharge and transfer notices,
  • Informs dietitians of orders for consults or calorie counts.
