POSITION SUMMARY
  • Reports To:
    • Lab Manager

  • Summary:
    • Employee is responsible for collection of specimens and clerical work. Job duties include drawing specimens, collecting urine drug screens, paternity testing, contacting patients and doctors, entering data in LIS, retrieving data from the LIS, and filing. Job entails practices that may cause serious financial loss to the company, and exposure to blood-borne pathogens. The employee normally performs the duty assignments according to his/her own judgment, requesting supervisory assistance only when necessary. Total end results determine effectiveness of job performance.

  • Work Schedule:
    • Must be able to work non-standard hours, sometimes in excess of 40 hours per week.
SKILLS & ABILITIES
  • Education
    • High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
    • ย 
  • Experience
    • 6 months phlebotomy and/or medical laboratory experience preferred.
    • ย 
  • Computer Skills
    • Proficient in Microsoft Office, email and basic computer skills for other software used throughout the hospital for your area of responsibility.
    • Must exhibit basic computer knowledge

  • Certificates & Licenses
    • Certification in Medical Assisting or Phlebotomy preferred.

  • Other Requirements
    • Must have a valid driver's license with reliable transportation. This position requires constant standing and walking and frequent use of hands and fingers.

  • Essential Functions
    • Collect laboratory specimens and correctly identify patients and specimens throughout the process.
    • Maintain specimen integrity through the collection and processing procedures.
    • Enter patient information and orders in LIS; retrieve and distribute results.
    • Answer phones and provide customer service.
    • Acts as a courier for the lab, transporting lab specimens in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
    • Maintains an acceptable error rate compared to peers.
