Job description

Job Summary
With a patient centered culture, the Phlebotomist will provide a positive experience to our patients and customers through collecting and receiving appropriate specimens for laboratory testing in an inpatient, outpatient or off-campus site environment. The Phlebotomist registers patients for laboratory testing and maintains established processes for record retention and retrieval and distribution of test results.
Responsibilities
Patient Registration and Laboratory Test Ordering
Accurately completes patient identification with registration and order entry. Additionally this role accurately reviews requisitions and places orders.
Processing/Accessioning of Specimens
Receives specimens and distributes copies of requisitions to appropriate departments.
Specimen Collection Techniques
Collects lab specimens (i.e. not limited to , blood by venipuncture and capillary technique, MRSA swabs, throat cultures, EKG's, urine's and kit collection) accurately - with no more than 2% rejection.
Understanding Roles and Responsibilities
Takes responsibility for clarifying job responsibilities, including the need to understand performance standards and other expectations. Communicates with supervisor regularly to ensure that there is no misunderstanding about how performance will be measured and how expectations relate to the job. Seeks clarification as needed or when responsibilities are not understood. Willingly accepts change.
Training and Mentoring
The Lab Assistant has a role in the training and mentoring of other lab assistants. This role provides mentorship to new lab assistants and assists in the development of other team members.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Light Work: Exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently and/or negligible amounts constantly.
Basic computer literacy ad familiarity with medical terminology normally acquired through program training and/or work experience preferred.
Phlebotomy experience preferred. Must complete phlebotomy training.
Education
• Post High School Diploma or Certificate Program (Required) Phlebotomy/MA Certification preferred
• High School Diploma or GED (Required)
