JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs routine and complex assigned tasks in one section of the laboratory, including tasks of moderate to high complexity.

Performs routine and complex assigned tasks in additional sections of the laboratory, including tasks of moderate to high complexity.

Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customers as requested including but not limited to the provision of accurate and timely information.

Maintains equipment, including scheduled, preventative and diagnostic maintenance as outlined in laboratory procedure and manufacturer user manuals.

Participates in Quality Improvement/Quality Assurance activities as determined by the hospital including hospital operations improvement.

Independently performs quality control procedures, documents results, and investigates and resolves abnormal results, with appropriate supervisory notification of activity.

Evaluates current practice and make appropriate suggestions to improve productivity and enhance expense reduction to the Section Head; assists in the evaluation of new equipment; monitors the purchasing of laboratory supplies and inventory control.

Provides technical guidance for customers as it relates to laboratory procedures and operations.

Attends meetings inside and outside of the hospital as designated. Participates in professional activities and continuing education to maintain professional expertise.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Hospital.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and hospital policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

Performs additional duties as required which relate to the function of the hospital.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

MT: Bachelor’s degree in medical technology or in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences from an accredited college or university is required. In addition, completion of a training program in an approved school of medical technology or equivalent applicable experience is highly preferred. Certification as a Medical Technologist (or equivalent) preferred.

MLT: Associate’s degree as a Medical Laboratory Technician required. One year of experience preferred. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (or equivalent) required.

SCHEDULE:


Four 10-hour shifts per week, hours negotiable but are currently 8:00 p.m. - 6:30 a.m.
