Position Summary: The Southern Tier Community Center (STCC) is seeking an energetic, experienced, and versatile Independent Contract Fitness & Dance Instructor to lead engaging classes for community members of all ages and ability levels.
This role is ideal for a multi-disciplinary instructor with a strong background in both fitness and dance modalities, who is passionate about promoting health, wellness, and community engagement. The instructor will play a key role in expanding STCC's wellness programming by offering high-quality instruction and collaborating with leadership to grow class offerings.
Responsibilities:
  • Plan and lead safe, inclusive, and engaging group classes in a variety of disciplines, including:
    • Yoga
    • Tai Chi
    • Meditation / Mindfulness
    • Zumba
    • Additional dance and fitness formats (e.g., strength, mobility, cardio, dance fitness)
  • Provide modifications to accommodate varying fitness levels, abilities, and age groups
  • Coordinate closely with the STCC Program Director to:
    • Schedule classes
    • Identify opportunities for program expansion
    • Develop new class ideas based on community needs
  • Maintain a consistent weekly teaching commitment (minimum one evening per week)
  • Assist with promotion of classes:
    • Internal outreach to STCC members
    • Community engagement and external promotion efforts
  • Foster a welcoming, positive, and inclusive class environment

Requirements
Education:
  • Certifications in one or more of the following (preferred):
    • Yoga (e.g., RYT or equivalent)
    • Tai Chi
    • Meditation / Mindfulness instruction
    • Zumba (licensed instructor preferred)
    • Other recognized fitness or dance certifications

Experience:
  • Experience teaching group fitness and/or dance classes
  • Strong multi-disciplinary background in both fitness and movement-based instruction
  • Ability to engage participants of all ages and fitness levels
  • Self-motivated, reliable, and collaborative mindset
  • Creative and enthusiastic with new class ideas
  • Strong community-oriented mindset
  • Passion for helping others achieve health and wellness goals
  • Experience building or growing class participation
