Job description

SHIBA (Statewide Health Insurance Benefits Advisors program)

As a SHIBA volunteer you will be trained to guide consumers through the Medicare maze enabling them to make the right decisions regarding health insurance. SHIBA advisors provide free and unbiased advice. New volunteers have 8 hours of basic training and 6 months of mentoring. On-going required training is 3 hours per month, 9 months of the year. As a SHIBA volunteer you part of a network of trained volunteers who educate, assist and advocate for consumers about their rights and options regarding health insurance issues and health care access. You provide information so they can make an informed decision. Basic computer skills and the ability to manage zoom technology are a must. Many advisors work from home using their own cell phones. It is not required that you come in to the central office at the Edmonds Waterfront Center. Most volunteers work a 3-4 hour shift each week.
