Job description

This is a casual position. A casual is a non-benefit eligible position that is not guaranteed any hours but can pick up open shifts.

Purpose of Job

This position is responsible for creating a positive first impression to the patients, the complete and accurate registration and scheduling for patients and various administrative duties.

Job Functions

  1. Efficiently registers patients, in person or via phone, capturing and verifying all required information in order to identify the patient, contact the patient, and receive proper reimbursement for services on initial claim submission.
  2. Completes pre-visit planning to ensure seamless patient experience.
  3. Assigns the appropriate Guarantor for each patient.
  4. Greets and provides courteous customer service to internal and external customers.
  5. Ensures patient receive necessary disclosures, privacy information, and sign the Consent to Treat documentation.
  6. Verifies insurance eligibility and benefit information using real time eligibility; reviews the insurers response to each verification request and takes appropriate action based on the response to ensure the proper insurance plan and billing address are entered into the system.
  7. Collects financial obligations from patients and/or refers patient to Patient Financial Services for financial counseling.
  8. Uses resources, tools and procedures to complete accounts in assign work queues.
  9. Coordinates requests for release of medical information.
  10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Education/Work Experience

  • 16 Years old
  • Previous Customer Service Experience

Knowledge/Skills/ Abilities

  • Ability to meet and maintain necessary background checks as aligned with position functions
  • Ability to communicate in the English language for effective written and verbal correspondence in order to complete job functions as mentioned above
  • Capable of making independent decisions with the use of strong critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Knowledge of basic computer functions and Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to perform basic math functions and count money
  • Ability to respond appropriately to unpredictable situations and diverse patient populations
  • Ability to work autonomously and as a team
  • Ability to multi-task

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • One year of medical office experience or completion of Medical Administrative Assistant/Medical Receptionist Certificate
  • Previous electronic medical software experience
  • Bilingual
