Job description

A prestigious private neurosurgical group practice in the heart of the Texas Medical Center, seeks a Clinical Patient Coordinator with several years of highly complex experience working as a nursing/medical assistant, preferably in surgical practice to join our team!


Our practice was founded over 30 years ago and is the largest private neurosurgical practice in Houston, outside of a university setting. We pride ourselves in selecting staff as much for their empathy and compassion as for their professionalism and high level of competency.


The Clinical Patient Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing a physician(s) daily clinic flow, schedule, and clinical/patient care support.


The Clinical Patient Coordinator will provide both direct and indirect patient care while serving as a liaison between the physician and patient.


Responsibilities

  • Serve as a medical assistant to one or more physicians
  • Travel to the satellite offices as determined by the physician's schedule
  • Room patient, obtain vitals, gather clinical information and enter extensive medical history in the EHR
  • Communicate physician instructions regarding treatment plan, surgery, and care to patients
  • Communicate and educate patients on surgical instructions (pre and post-op)
  • Coordinate and schedule complex testing
  • Schedule, book and prepare hospital orders for surgery
  • Obtain surgical clearances
  • Schedule and screen all patient appointments for established patients
  • Manage the physician(s) daily schedule to ensure efficiency and time management
  • Answer, triage and return calls timely; including calls to patients, hospitals and other physician offices
  • Work with billing department to ensure timely authorization of surgeries and charge capturing
  • High level problem solving and critical thinking skills to ensure smooth patient flow and high patient satisfaction


Qualifications and Skill Set
Minimum of 2 years experience as a clinical patient coordinator, medical assistant, or nursing assistant in a fast paced surgical practice

  • Clear and effective communication both oral & written
  • Excellent customer service
  • Ability to multi-task with time management skills, must have the ability to organize and prioritize
  • Detail oriented, skilled at analyzing situations and taking effective action
  • Current working knowledge of medical terminology
  • Current working knowledge in scheduling procedures and surgeries
  • Effective team work / ability to work with a group / positive attitude
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Epic and or Nextgen experience a plus
  • Neurosurgical, Orthopedic, and Spine experience a plus
  • Bilingual - Spanish a plus
