Job description

Performs direct patient care under the supervision of a physician or appropriate clinician.ย  Performs related clerical duties supporting operational needs.ย 

Responsibilities:ย ย 
  • Prepares treatment rooms for patient examinations, ensuring cleanliness and availability of appropriate equipment and supplies.ย 
  • Interviews patient to obtain medical information and perform measurement and screening procedures.ย 
  • Prepares patient for examination and treatment.ย 
  • Obtains patient's height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature, head circumference, and other required vital statistics.ย 
  • Records findings in patient medical record and informs clinician of findings.ย 
  • Obtains specimens from patient, as directed by clinician.ย 
  • Collects blood, tissue, or other laboratory specimens.ย  Completes requisitions, labels and routes specimens according to established procedures.ย 
  • Performs electrocardiograms (EKGs), as required.ย  ย 
  • Assists clinician during examination, procedures and treatment, as required.ย 
  • Secures required supplies, tools and equipment for specific procedures.ย 
  • Ensures patient is appropriately draped and positioned.ย 
  • Provides requested instruments to clinician during procedure.ย  Assists in positioning and holding patient, as required.ย 
  • Assists patient after examination, procedure or treatment.ย 
  • Prepares, sterilizes and calibrates equipment.ย  Informs Supervisor of malfunctioning equipment.ย 
  • Strictly adheres to infection control standards in the performance of duties.ย 
  • Performs related clerical duties supporting operational needs.ย ย 
  • Participates in patient registration, as required.ย  Processes insurance forms, certifications, physician orders, prescriptions, etc.ย 
  • Ensures required patient information and documentation is available in medical records.ย 
  • Schedules and confirms patient appointments.ย 
  • Places, receives and directs phone calls.ย ย 
  • Files, copies, and distributes documentation, as required.ย 
  • Performs related duties as requiredย 
Qualifications:ย 
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.ย 
  • Successful completion of a six (6) month to one (1) year course in Medical Assisting at an accredited school OR 1- 3 years of medical assistant experience, required.ย
