Medical Modeling information

What is medical modeling?

A Medical Modeling job involves creating digital or physical models of anatomical structures for medical applications. Specialists in this field use imaging data, such as CT or MRI scans, to develop accurate 3D models used in surgical planning, custom implants, medical research, or education. These models help improve patient outcomes by providing precise visualizations for healthcare professionals. The role often requires expertise in medical imaging software, 3D printing, and biomedical engineering.

What does a medical modeler do?

A typical workday for Medical Modeling professionals involves collaborating closely with clinicians and researchers to collect, process, and interpret medical imaging data. Tasks often include creating and refining 3D anatomical models, running simulations, validating models against clinical data, and presenting results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You may also participate in team meetings to discuss project progress, troubleshoot complex modeling issues, and integrate new technologies or workflows. The environment is highly collaborative and dynamic, offering opportunities to contribute to cutting-edge medical research and device development.

What skills and qualifications are needed for medical modeling?

Medical Modeling professionals require strong backgrounds in biomedical engineering, anatomy, and advanced computational modeling, typically holding degrees in biomedical engineering, medical physics, or a related field. Expertise in using specialized software like 3D CAD programs, medical imaging platforms (e.g., MRI, CT), and simulation tools, along with relevant certifications, is highly valued. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective interdisciplinary communication are crucial soft skills in this field. These competencies ensure accurate creation of patient-specific models and effective collaboration with clinicians and researchers for improved healthcare outcomes.

Job description

Position: Medical Imaging & 3D Modeling Specialist
Location: Onsite at Weston, FL
Work schedule: 1st shift core hours are 7AM-3:30PM Monday-Friday (high overtime need with >55 hour weeks being possible)
Pay: $20/hour

Job Overview:

We are seeking a highly proficient, quality-focused Surgical Plan Specialist to join our advanced medical technology team. In this role, you will focus on individual production efforts to create precise 3D anatomical bone models and pre-operative surgical plans for robotically assisted Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement procedures.

Working with specialized imaging software, you will bridge the gap between radiological diagnostic data (CT scans) and robotically guided surgical execution, ensuring that surgeons and field-based personnel receive flawless digital pre-plans that meet strict anatomical protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create and manage surgical cases from inception to completion within a proprietary case management system.

  • Review incoming CT scans thoroughly to ensure strict conformity with established radiological and robotic surgical protocols.

  • Segment CT scan data using specialized 3D software to generate accurate anatomical bone models for robotic surgery.

  • Develop customized pre-operative surgical plans using digital bone models to optimize implant sizing, positioning, and alignment for joint replacement procedures.

  • Review and audit CT segmentations and surgical plans to verify the accuracy of anatomical landmark selections.

  • Upload finalized, quality-checked pre-plans directly to field-based clinical personnel and surgical teams.

  • Document all case activities, adjustments, and approvals according to prescribed quality management methods and standard operating procedures.

  • Follow detailed technical work instructions explicitly to deliver consistent, repeatable, and high-quality surgical outputs.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Education & Experience: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required with a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience, or an equivalent combination of education (Associate’s Degree or higher in a technical, biological, or scientific discipline).

  • Visual Acuity: Must have 20/20 vision (with or without corrective lenses/glasses) and the ability to view, distinguish, and analyze a wide variety of colors and visual contrasts on high-resolution computer monitors.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Anatomical Knowledge: Completion of college-level human anatomy coursework or a strong foundational understanding of musculoskeletal structure.

  • Radiology & Clinical Background: Professional certifications or experience in Radiology (CT, X-Ray, MRI), Nursing, or related allied health fields.

  • Software & Technical Proficiency: Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite; experience with specialized 3D modeling/segmentation software (such as Materialise MIMICS), Salesforce, or Adobe Photoshop is highly preferred.

  • Work Style: Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to maintain meticulous attention to detail and high efficiency in a fast-paced environment.
