POSITION SUMMARY:

The Image Processing Software Engineer is responsible for developing medical imaging software that supports Gaumard’s patient simulation technology. This role contributes to the advancement of medical imaging simulation training by designing and implementing software solutions for medical image generation, analysis, and visualization across a variety of platforms. The position requires strong C++ programming skills and a commitment to developing high-quality, maintainable code. The Image Processing Software Engineer works collaboratively with cross‑functional engineering teams to deliver reliable, innovative software that enhances the realism and effectiveness of simulation‑based medical training solutions.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:

Receives direct supervision from management personnel; may assist other departmental employees in performing the job functions. Does not supervise any other position(s). Frequently exercises discretion. These positions are located in Building 5.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop prototypes and build next-generation medical simulation software and hardware programs using C++.
  • Design and develop 3D real‑time rendering.
  • Establish communication with hardware peripherals.
  • Conduct comprehensive unit testing and profiling.
  • Collaborate with a cross‑functional development team including close collaboration with the engineering group to develop our medical simulation software solutions.
  • Support in the development of the UX design, system software, and robotics controls to aid in the design of user‑centric training simulation platforms.
  • Be relentless about detail and clean documented code for reusability and easy maintenance.
  • Develop impactful real‑world problems with real‑time accuracy problematics in a simulated environment.
  • Be able to take friendly suggestions in stride. Understand there is always a solution in there that will work for all.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field with an emphasis on application development.
  • 3 or more years of software development experience.
  • Advanced to expert‑level skills in C++ programming language.
  • Demonstrated experience in algorithm development and application of image processing, registration, and segmentation.
  • Working knowledge of geometry and application experience.
  • OpenGL or DirectX, Cg knowledge, and development experience.
  • Proficiency in C++ development, parallelization, unit testing, and performance measurement.
  • Solid software engineering foundation and a commitment to writing high‑quality code, including clear and understandable design and implementation, well‑defined interfaces, ease of build and use & ease of extensibility.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal).

QUALIFICATIONS DESIRED:

  • Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related field.
  • Computer Vision and Image Processing algorithm development experience.
  • OpenCV, IPP, CUDA experience.
  • Familiarity with data formats, such as STL, OBJ, FBX, etc.
  • Familiarity with serial communication protocol, TCP/IP server/client communication protocol.
  • Familiarity with software development tools and methodology.
  • Previous Medical Imaging Software Development experience is highly desired.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • High energy level, comfortable performing multifaceted projects in conjunction with normal activities.
  • Should possess excellent eye‑to‑hand coordination, and manual dexterity.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use his/her fingers.
  • The employee frequently is required to talk and hear.
  • The employee is interchangeably required to sit, stand, and walk.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to communicate (read and write) effectively in a business environment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment in determining potential strong candidates.
  • Must be able to work additional hours as needed.

Hours: Monday to Friday 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM must be willing and able to work some Saturdays or stay beyond scheduled shift if needed to meet business demands.
