Summary: The Medical Lab Assistant Lead is responsible for assisting with various in-house testing while ensuring that all patients receive quality care within the lab. In collaboration with the Lab and Imaging Manager, the Medical Lab Assistant Lead ensures compliance with all federal grants, OSHA, CLIA, and Hunter Health Clinic (HHC) policies and procedures.

Essential Functions:

Performs all essential functions of a Medical Lab Assistant in addition to the following Medical Lab Assistant Lead functions:

• Supports all areas of laboratory operations as directed by Lab & Imaging Manager, including patient care, quality compliance and administrative duties to meet the needs of the department.
• Supports new testing procedures and ensures they're followed and performed as instructed.
• Coordinates training for care team medical assistants, nurses and new lab employees.
• Monitors tests' status and completions to ensure specimen processing is handled timely.
• Ensures lab is prepared for anticipated high patient loads and testing needs.
• Helps with completing audits and assists with preparations and readiness for inspections conducted by outside agencies.
• Assists manager and EHR team in troubleshooting Laboratory Information System (LIS) & EHR problems or complaints. in collaboration with lab manager and EHR team.
• Ensures proper infection control protocols are being consistently followed.
• Enters proficiency survey results for preliminary review by lab manager.
• Travels when necessary to meet operational needs.
• Performs all other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent is required.
• Documented training or certification appropriate to laboratory specific tasks is required.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, within 30 days of hire.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in a healthcare laboratory setting is preferred.
• Experience in phlebotomy is required.
• Bilingual abilities are preferred but not required.
