Medical assistants are generally not authorized to administer injections, including lidocaine, unless they have specific training and certification that allows them to perform such procedures under supervision. Administering local anesthetics like lidocaine typically requires a licensed healthcare professional, such as a nurse or physician, depending on state laws and regulations. Medical assistants may assist with preparing the materials or patient care but do not usually perform injections independently.
