Job description

LHH Recruitment Solutions is partnering with a respected and growing law firm in Royal Oak, Michigan, seeking an experienced Legal Biller to join its accounting and finance team. This position plays a critical role in managing the firm's billing process, ensuring accuracy, compliance with client guidelines, and timely invoice submission. The ideal candidate will have prior law firm billing experience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with attorneys, staff, and clients.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare, review, edit, and finalize client invoices in accordance with attorney requirements and client billing guidelines.
  • Review pre-bills for accuracy, time entry compliance, billing rates, and expense allocations.
  • Coordinate with attorneys and legal staff to resolve billing discrepancies and ensure timely monthly billing cycles.
  • Process electronic billing submissions through various e-billing platforms and client portals, including LEDES billing formats.
  • Monitor accounts receivable balances and assist with collections efforts and payment follow-up.
  • Generate monthly billing reports and ad hoc financial reports for firm management.
  • Maintain accurate client billing records and account information.
  • Process billing adjustments, write-offs, credits, transfers, and account reconciliations as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with client billing requirements, outside counsel guidelines, and firm policies.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end billing and accounting processes.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 3 years of legal billing experience in a law firm environment.
  • Experience utilizing legal billing and accounting software.
  • Knowledge of LEDES billing, electronic billing systems, and client e-billing portals strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of legal billing procedures, accounts receivable processes, and trust accounting concepts.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting multiple attorneys and practice groups.
  • Familiarity with outside counsel guidelines and complex client billing requirements.
  • Exposure to law firm accounting, finance, and operational processes.
  • Experience handling high-volume billing in a professional services environment.
