As a medical assistant that works from home, your role is to coordinate appointments and handle administrative tasks from a remote, home-based office. In this role, you may schedule meetings, get prior authorization from an insurance company, or reach out to a patient to see how they are doing after a procedure. Some work from home medical assistants also perform phone triage, which helps patients determine what type of care they need. This usually comes down to recommending at-home treatments, scheduling an appointment with a doctor, or directing the patient to visit the emergency room or another fast-care facility.
