Medical Assistant II - Dermatology
Division: Dermatology
Work Arrangement: Onsite only
Location: Houston, TX
Salary Range: $43,065 - $50,665
FLSA Status: Nonexempt
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.
Summary
The Department of Dermatology, Baylor College of Medicine, has an immediate opening for an experienced Medical Assistant II. The ideal candidate will have two or more years of experience in a fast paced, patient focused, and team-oriented outpatient clinical setting. Experience in a dermatology clinic and/or surgical environment is strongly preferred. The MA II may assist with training entry-level MAs.
The Dermatology Clinic at Baylor College of Medicine is a state of the art facility that treats patients with complex skins conditions, performs Mohs surgery on skin cancer patients, and offers cosmetic and laser procedures.
Job Duties
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities such as rooming patients, taking vital signs, drawing blood, specimen collection, administering tests, collecting patient history, and assisting the physician in the exam room.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation, and enters patient information into the electronic medical record.
  • Notes the primary complaint/reason for the patient visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for the physician/physician assistant.
  • Assists with procedures as needed. Instructs patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Takes inventory and keeps patient exam rooms in orderly condition and appropriately stocked.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments, as needed.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Performs clerical/administrative duties such as scanning patient medical records, obtaining lab reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Distributes clinic faxes and medical records to appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Encourages patients to enroll in and use BCM MyChart for patient communications.
  • Performs assigned "champion" roles.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, AMCA, AAH, AAMP, or NPS).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of MA experience in a dermatology practice or academic setting.
  • Associate's or bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in cosmetic/laser/general dermatology.
