What are Medical Assistants (Will Train)?

Medical Assistants (Will Train) are entry-level healthcare professionals who support physicians and nurses in clinical and administrative tasks within medical settings. The 'Will Train' designation means that prior experience or formal education is not always required, as employers provide on-the-job training to teach necessary skills. Duties may include taking patient histories, measuring vital signs, assisting with examinations, scheduling appointments, and managing medical records. This role is ideal for those interested in starting a healthcare career without prior certification, offering valuable experience and potential growth opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Medical Assistant (Will Train), and why are they important?

To thrive as a Medical Assistant (Will Train), you should have a high school diploma or equivalent, basic knowledge of medical terminology, and a willingness to learn clinical and administrative tasks. Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems, basic office software, and on-the-job training or certification programs is common. Strong communication, organizational skills, and a compassionate attitude help you provide excellent patient care and support to the healthcare team. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring efficient operations, patient satisfaction, and compliance with healthcare protocols.

What can I expect during the training period as a Medical Assistant with no prior experience?

As a Medical Assistant trainee, you will typically receive a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on training under the supervision of experienced medical staff. During this period, you'll learn essential skills such as taking patient vitals, updating medical records, and assisting with basic clinical procedures. Expect to shadow seasoned Medical Assistants, gradually taking on more responsibilities as your confidence and competence grow. The training is structured to ensure you feel supported while adapting to the fast-paced healthcare environment, and your supervisors will provide regular feedback to help you progress.

Job description

Job Title: Medical Assistant – Optometry (Will Train)

Are you a "people person" with a knack for style and a desire to start a career in healthcare? We are looking for an energetic, hard-working Optometric Medical Assistant to join our team! No prior experience in optometry is required—we will fully train the right candidate who brings a positive attitude and a commitment to excellence.

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will be the face of our practice, guiding patients from the moment they walk in until they find the perfect pair of glasses.

  • Patient Prepping: Greet patients warmly, record medical histories, and update records in our Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Preliminary Testing: Learn to operate specialized equipment to run "pre-tests," such as visual acuity, eye pressure (the "air puff" test), and retinal imaging.
  • Eyewear Styling: Help patients choose frames that match their face shape, style, and prescription needs. You’ll also provide education on lens options, such as anti-glare or blue-light filters.
  • Doctor Support: Prepare exam rooms between patients and assist the doctor during examinations as needed.
  • Patient Education: Teach new wearers how to safely insert, remove, and care for contact lenses.

Mandatory Skills

We hire for personality and train for skill. To be successful, you must have:

  • Strong Communication: Ability to explain technical info clearly and listen to patient needs.
  • Reliability & Consistency: You show up on time and deliver high-quality care every single day.
  • Good Time Management: The ability to keep the doctor on schedule while making sure patients never feel rushed.
  • "Easy to Work With" Personality: A team-player attitude; we value a positive, low-stress work environment.
  • Strong Work Ethic: A proactive "self-starter" who looks for ways to help when things get busy.

Qualifications

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Language (Optional): Fluent in Spanish is a major plus to better serve our diverse community.
  • Experience: None required! We welcome applicants from retail, hospitality, or customer service backgrounds.

Why Join Us?

This is a great entry point into the medical field. We offer hands-on training, a supportive team, and the opportunity to earn Certified Paraoptometric (CPO) credentials once you've gained experience.
