Job description

Position Summary 

The Medical Assistant Supervisor provides leadership and oversight of the Medical Assistant (MA) team, ensuring clinical competency, quality of patient care, and efficient clinic operations. This role includes direct supervision of MAs, training and mentoring staff, coordinating daily workflows, and supporting interdisciplinary care teams in a trauma-informed, patient-centered environment. 

 
Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Supervise Medical Assistants, including scheduling, timesheet approvals, performance evaluations, coaching, and disciplinary processes. 
  • Ensure quality and competency of MA team through training, auditing, and remediation of clinical skills. 
  • Champion quality improvement initiatives and support the implementation of LEAN methodology across the suite. 
  • Provide direct patient care support in routine and emergency situations within scope of training. 
  • Collaborate with providers, nurses, and behavioral health staff to ensure effective interdisciplinary patient care. 
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Health Record (NextGen) and other systems, including vitals, procedures, immunizations, labs, and patient communications. 
  • Coordinate patient flow, appointment scheduling, follow-ups, lab processing, and referrals to optimize clinic operations. 
  • Administer immunizations and perform clinical procedures (venipuncture, wound care, EKG, spirometry, etc.) in accordance with protocols. 
  • Support staff development through orientation, competency assessments, professional development, and regular supervision meetings. 
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, HIPAA, and safety protocols, reporting incidents appropriately in SafetyZone. 
  • Ensure timely & accurate recording of all clinical/non-clinical services, communications, and tasks in the EHR and other systems as required while maintaining complete up-to-date charts and any future upgrades as directed. 
  • Performs other job duties as assigned. 
     

Job Qualifications and Competencies 

Education 

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. 
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant program or Emergency Medical Technician-Basic certification required. 
  • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR) required. 
     

Experience 

  • Previous experience as a Medical Assistant Required. 
  • Prior experience in ambulatory, community health, public health, mental health, emergency, or critical care settings preferred. 
  • Experience with pediatric care and/or working with diverse or marginalized populations strongly preferred. 
  • Experience in community health, public health, or working with diverse and marginalized populations preferred. 
  • Supervisory or leadership experience preferred. 
  • Job Competencies 
  • Strong leadership skills, including change management, decision-making, problem-solving, and staff development.
