Ophthalmic Assistant / Medical Assistant Scribe

HILLANDALE - Lithonia, GA 30058

Description

Role of the Ophthalmic Assistant / Medical Assistant Scribe is to assist the physician with documentation of the patient's electronic medical record (EMR). The scribe accompanies the physician into the exam room to transcribe the history and examination of the patient as dictated by the physician. Under the direction of the physician, the scribe will record the condition of a patient (as stated by the patient), record results of the exam by the physician, input prescriptions and orders, as well as, documenting future appointments. Outside of the exam room, scribe will prepare minor procedure trays, assist with phone calls and patient follow-up (Tasks), prepares educational material, and coordinate referrals when necessary. Responsible for mastering the advanced work-up on patients in all Ophthalmology subspecialties. Advanced work-up to include the basic work-up components, plus: over-refraction, visual field testing, OCT, and fundus photography. Responsible assisting in minor procedures and preparing patient for laser. Responsible for sterilization of equipment, medical surfaces, and instruments. Works closely and communicates continuously with clinical support team and providers to efficiently move patients through their visit.

Qualifications

Required Minimum Experience: Must successfully complete technician training (TEG Academy), OSC Certification required, position only available to current eligible Thomas Eye Group Employees

Required Minimum Experience: 1-2 years in healthcare environment

A combination of experience, education, and/or training which substantially demonstrates the following knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Familiar with EMR System
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
  • Punctual and reliable
  • Must be able to multitask
  • Conscientious about triage and escalation of issues
  • Excellent typing skills at least 45 wpm with accuracy
  • Proficient in listening and understanding abilities
  • Familiar with diagnostic codes
  • Ability to learn "on the job"
  • Must be able to work with both Ophthalmologists and Optometrists
  • Certification like OSC, COA, COT or COMT required.
