Description
Job Summary: Assist with office based procedures following aseptic technique, hand off instruments, assist with obtaining, labeling and sending specimens, perform low and high level disinfection procedures, perform POC testing, enter orders into computer. Room patients, set up exam/ procedure rooms. Responsible for performing routine and more complex medical assistant clinical duties to include, but not limited to, taking vital signs, administering a limited number of medication per Emory Clinic approved policy, performing simple diagnostic tests, collecting specimens, drawing blood, sterilizing and cleaning equipment, and maintaining examination rooms in an outpatient care setting. Assists physicians and APP's with patients, equipment preparation, aseptic technique and surgical procedures in the exam/procedure room. Prepares the exam/ procedure room by assembling routine supplies, materials, instruments and equipment; obtains special supplies indicated by physician. Accountable for the care and handling of instruments and equipment. Assists in the preparation, transportation, and positioning of patients for the procedure and provides for the physical comfort, safety, and privacy of the patient during the procedure. Observes patient for possible symptoms which may indicate a change in condition and reports to appropriate member of medical team for immediate action. Demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the principles of sterile technique and infection control; practices appropriate procedures to maintain a sterile environment. Chaperone and assist for every patient intimate examination. Performs accurate POC testing MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED required. Basic computer skills required. One year work experience preferred. Current Medical Assistant Certification in one of the following: American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT) Registered Medical Assistant (RMA), National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA), or National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT) National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA). Current AHA BLS certification is required for hire and must be renewed throughout employment. Must successfully complete all medical assistant orientation and training requirements including certification and annual skills competency.
