JOB TITLE: Assignment desk Editor

LOCATION: Houston, Texas

Univision 45 is looking for an Assignment Desk Editor to join our team!

Univision 45 is currently accepting resumes for an Assignment Desk Editor based in Houston, Texas.

The Assignment Desk Editor is responsible for managing story assignments, coordinates logistics and responds to breaking news. Candidates should be creative thinkers able to conceptualize interactive projects for broadcast and online components for our news digital platforms.

ABOUT YOU:

The ideal candidate is excited about creating content for a large audience. Being a strategy leader behind the scenes is something you have excelled in throughout your career. No challenge is too large because you are accustomed to working in a fast-paced environment.

YOUR DAY-DAY: (aka Responsibilities)

  • Generate research, verify, plan, and develop story ideas and breaking news for newscastsand digital platforms
  • Coordinate editorial meetings
  • Assign stories for various newscastsand schedule interviews for the morning newscast
  • Dispatch crews to stories and breaking news, using appropriate logistical and journalistic judgment
  • Will maintain a plan for daily, weekly and future story lists.
  • Will act as a liaison with other news organizations, community contacts and UTG assignment desks
  • Make calls to new sources as needed, gaining appropriate information
  • Assist in finding stories, doing research and tracking story ideas with emphasis on key brand points
  • Monitor a variety of sources, including social media, wires and local news, and evaluate newsworthiness.
  • Must be able to work under pressure, manage breaking news and strict deadlines
  • Work weekends, holidays and overnights if needed

YOU HAVE: (aka Qualifications)

  • Bachelor's Degree, in Journalism, Communications/New Media
  • A minimum of 2-years' experience in a large or medium market as Assignment Editor, news producer or content newsgathering role.
  • Should demonstrate strong news judgment
  • Strong logistical ability
  • Have knowledge of current affairs
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships with sources
  • Detail oriented, organized, disciplined, able to manage multiple tasks/responsibilities in working with tight deadlines and juggle multiple projects simultaneously
  • Creative and assertive
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook, iNews, live feeds, and social media platforms
  • Fluent in English and Spanish
