Job Description
We have an exciting opportunity within US Medical Affairs foraDirector, Medical Affairs Oncology, Strategic Evidence & Collaborations (SEC). This role will be remote but will require headquarterstravelfor specific meetings quarterly.
Reporting to the Senior Director and Head of Strategic Evidence & Collaborations, US Medical Affairs (USMA), the core efforts of this role is to be responsible for co-developing the US Medical Affairs strategy for US Medical Affairs congress plans in collaboration with the COE (Congress Center of Excellence) and the USMA Strategy and Field Based Medical Teams.
The key functions of this role will be to represent and consider the healthcare environment of the US with internal and external stakeholders involved in cancer therapies across approved and pipeline molecules and indications, including the Global Medical Affairs team, US Medical Access and Quality team, Scientific Communications/Publications, Medical Affairs Outcomes Research, Commercial Strategy, Marketing, Value and Market Access, Clinical Research/Development, US Public Affairs, US Government Affairs ,Patient Engagement, Business Conduct (Legal), and the field-based US Medical Science Liaisons.
Travel Requirement:Must be able to travel more than 50% of the time, including a mix of domestic and international travel.
Job Responsibilities
As an integral part of the USMA Oncology team, and in close collaboration with Oncology medical directors, Field Medical., Global MedicalAffairs, MedicalAffairs Research,MedicalPatient Access and Quality, and cross-functional partners, this role will establish and execute an overarching strategy for evidence generation across various tumor types in the US,including collaborationwith cooperative groups, NCI/CTEP, and other key organizations. This role will also provide frequent internal and external input into the development of both the US and Global Medical Affairs Strategic Plans forour ADC portfolio, particularly the Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP). Additionally, the role willbe a key contributor to the USandGlobal medicalPlan of Action (POA)
Specific responsibilities for this role will include, but are not limited to:
Demonstrate deep subject matterexpertiseinour fullADC portfolio, the Gileadclinical trials and their clinical use, as well as competitive products
Collaborateasa thoughtpartnerandsignificantcontributorto thesuccessfulworkleadbythe CommunityCancer CollectiveTeam(CCC)
Contribute to the development of the Global Integrated Strategic Plan (ISP) and Local Plan ofAction(POAs) by providing USand Globalbased strategic perspectives
Develop strategies and implementation plans to define and address education, research, and medical affairs insights and data generation needs within the US
Prepare presentation materials and present scientific data at internal meetings and external advisory boards
Support US medical efforts in global and regional Congress strategic planning and tactical executionin collab with SEC lead and Center of Excellence (COE) for Congresses. The Role may focus on Disease Specific Efforts and Oncology HCPs engagement in collaboration across the USMA Teams.
Support-Lead the USMA medical efforts and strategic planning for US Based Oncology Societies
Provide medical and scientific leadership and support at key scientific meetings with US HCPs / patient presence
Serve as an information resource to Gilead colleagues, including the US Medical Science Liaisons, including medical educational activities, grants, and investigator-sponsored/collaborative studies.
Collaborate with Investigator Sponsored Research (which Gilead calls"Collaboration Research")withtheMedical Affairs Research Team (MAR) and Clinical R&D.
Uponlimitedoccasion, Lead the delivery oftimely,accurate, and succinct communication of fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations to healthcare professionals, both proactively and in response to requests for information, consistent with promotional compliance and regulatory requirements
Upon occasion,participatein the editorial review of all scientific content to ensure strategic alignment and accuracy
Support the development ofDisease-Specific Publication Strategy
Support data generation activities through:
Critical review of globalcollaborationResearch, Ph 3b, and Ph4 study proposals generated in the US
Review abstracts and/or manuscripts that result from UScollaboration research
Communicate Gilead's commitment to scientific excellence through research and education
Provide strategic input toGlobal Medical Affairs Plan
Collaborate effectively and in a compliant manner with colleagues in other functional areas throughout Gilead.
Other activities, as assigned, to support US Medical Affairs strategy development and tactical execution
Basic Qualifications:
Advanced medical/scientific degree (i.e., Ph.D., MD, Pharm D) and 8+years of experience in Medical Affairs or success in a similar role outside of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry OR
MA/MS and 10+years of experience in Medical Affairs or success in a similar role outside of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry OR
BA/BS and 12+years of experience in Medical Affairs or success in a similar role outside of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry
Preferred Qualifications:
10+ years of experience in Medical Affairs or success in a similar role outside of the biotech/pharmaceutical industry.
Experience specific to oncology
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and translate that strategy into an actionable work plan.
Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal, relationship-building, negotiating, and communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills to support project planning across multiple activities, and toanticipateand prioritize workload.
Excellent teamwork skills.
Attention to detail and ability to meet timelines in a fast-paced environment
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;demonstratedability toidentifyand understand complex issues and problems; ability toidentifyand query key findings from study data and publications.
Experience in developing effective abstracts, manuscripts, posters, and slides and presenting at scientific meetings
Must be fullycognizantof and adhere to regulatory and legal (Business Conduct) requirements for clinical trials and related Medical Affairs activities; thorough knowledge of FDA regulations, ICH guidelines, and GCPs governing the conduct of clinical trials is preferred
Able to work witha high levelof autonomy and independence.

The salary range for this position is:
