Video Encoding & Video Quality Measurement Engineer

Who You Are:

You are a hands-on Video Encoding & Video Quality Measurement Engineer with strong expertise in video encoding workflows, CDN optimization, IP video delivery, and video quality analysis. You are comfortable working within large-scale video delivery environments and have experience supporting encoding systems, troubleshooting multicast video streams, and optimizing video quality across enterprise video platforms.

The ideal candidate brings strong operational experience with HEVC and advanced video codecs, packaging systems, and video quality assessment tools such as VMAF and SIMMWAVE. You thrive in fast-paced environments requiring strong troubleshooting skills, Linux administration experience, and collaboration across engineering and operations teams.

As a Consultant, you’ll contribute to client engagements by delivering insights, building deliverables, and leading workstreams. You’ll be expected to bring strong analytical thinking, and a proactive mindset to solve client problems and drive transformation.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

You may work on various projects throughout your career with Excelacom. The roles and responsibilities noted below pertain to the specific role listed above.

  • Set up, configure, and maintain video encoding workflows utilizing HEVC and other advanced codecs
  • Connect and troubleshoot encoders within IP video delivery and packaging environments
  • Support packaging workflows utilizing BroadPeak and API-driven packaging systems
  • Join, analyze, and troubleshoot multicast streams in IP video environments
  • Perform video quality measurements and optimization activities utilizing VMAF and SIMMWAVE
  • Support encoding optimization initiatives for video delivery quality and CDN performance improvements
  • Work with transcoding platforms including Harmonic XOS and ATEME
  • Support self-healing encoder failover workflows and resiliency initiatives
  • Perform encoder testing, firmware upgrades, software patching, and operational maintenance activities
  • Support Linux server administration including software installation, system configuration, troubleshooting, and patch management
  • Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to troubleshoot workflow issues and improve platform stability
  • Maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and workflow diagrams
  • Work closely with clients to identify process improvements
  • Analyze business challenges and recommend technology-driven solutions
  • Support system development, integration, and testing activities
  • Develop presentations, deliverables, and implementation plans
  • Assist with proposals and business development efforts

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with video encoding technologies including HEVC and advanced codec workflows
  • Experience supporting IP video delivery concepts and multicast networking environments
  • Experience utilizing video quality measurement tools including VMAF and SIMMWAVE
  • Experience connecting encoders to packaging systems and troubleshooting encoding workflows
  • Experience supporting transcoding platforms such as Harmonic XOS and/or ATEME
  • Strong Linux administration experience including software installation, system configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance
  • Experience supporting encoder testing, firmware upgrades, and infrastructure patching activities
  • Understanding of CDN optimization and video delivery performance concepts
  • Experience troubleshooting operational issues within video streaming and delivery environments
  • Prior consulting experience – in an agile environment – with a leading strategy firm, consulting practice, or consulting technology firm
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or related field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in Telecommunications, Media, or Cable is highly preferred
  • Past success in generating new business with existing clients
  • Good time management and collaboration skills
  • Experience supporting large-scale IP video delivery environments
  • Familiarity with API-driven packaging platforms such as BroadPeak
  • Experience supporting security patching and Linux OS migrations including Rocky Linux environments
  • Exposure to high availability and self-healing video delivery architectures

 

Compensation and Benefits:

Excelacom offers competitive salaries, health and wellness benefits, 401(k), paid time off, and career growth opportunities.  For regular full-time employees, the estimated salary range is from $100,000 to $130,000/yr.
